Yipes for stripes

Several weeks ago I got a text from a former customer/client she wanted me to make her a king sized quilt and had a pattern and fabrics already, it was hard to plan and talk about on text as she just did porch drop off.

It was a pattern that was based off of layer cakes and then many, many more blocks!

All the fabrics were washed including the layer cakes and most shrunk and some even had selvages on them, so I had to modify the pattern a bit, and then it has this 1 1/2″ cut white stripe on the block sections.

If I remember correctly it was 132 blocks! 11 rows with 12 in each I think, something like that!

The fabrics were really FUN!!

(Lots of trimming after EACH seam, made me miss Accquilt for this)

After the top was done we agreed on a small 2 1/2″ border

I knew from the beginning that there wasn’t enough fabric for the backing, so she went back for more and also picked up some black for the binding.

And finally it got on the frame!

This is the biggest quilt I’ve put on my new machine so far, I remember my old frame could handle a 105″ top but it was tight, here because I have 12ft rails it’s NO problem, plenty of space on the sides and I was happy to have it automated, though it still took from early morning until after dinner (with breaks)

the design is called pipeline and I think it fit perfectly, I used black thread on it

and TADA! finally done

104″ x 100″ it’s HUGE and heavy!

the back was this plaid in black and red, not the typical cotton but it worked great!

A fun quilt to make!

The pattern is called Day Hike.
