Witchy stitchy blog hop

It’s time for the witchy stitchy blog hop!

When Carol posted about this blog hop I was a bit hesitant as I don’t celebrate Halloween at all and don’t like it, but I’m a sucker for blog hops! so I figured I could at least do something with pumpkins on it, so I signed up 🙂

When I started thinking of ideas, I then realized the “theme” for Island Batik ambassadors was table toppers and with applique, so BINGO! kill two birds with one stone!! or should I say pumpkins?

I found this pattern in one of my books- and it used 5″ charms.

so I figured I could use some of these 5″ rolls from Island Batik and two rolls had some duplicate fabrics, so that would work!

To start with the strips are 1″ CUT, so tiny and SO fun!

don’t they look cute? yeah it was tricky having to iron those seams open!

Soon enough I had a bunch of tiny four patches

they are 1 1/2″ just tiny and fun!!

Then adding on some orange squares

and before long I had the top made!

I added a skinny white border and then I didn’t have enough of any of the strips to do the outer border, so I got the idea to miter the corners and do opposite sides in one fabric and the other in another fabric, which ended up being a fun result!

I then added some pumpkin applique with the pumpkin accuquilt die

I had some black Hobbs batting leftover and decided to use that and finished the quilt

I sort of echo quilted around the pumpkins and then added this purple check binding.

 The quilt measures 23 1/2″ x 23 1/2″

I am also having a little giveaway!
This orange owl pincushion plus two packs of 5″ strips from IB (plus a few leftovers from the rolls I opened)

Answer below if you have sewn anything with pumpkins on it!

I am so impressed with this tiny quilt! My granddaughter loves tiny things and a quilt like this would be perfect for her. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Your pumpkin quilt is stunning!

Hi, Bea! I am smiling at your name because I had a good friend in elementary school named Bea. I've never met another one until now! I just love your pumpkin-themed quilt. The closeup photos of the fabrics show the delicate pattern they sport – so very pretty. And I give you huge kudos for working with one-inch strips. Yikes! So pretty, so small, and so easy to go wrong! This is a lovely finish and I thank you for sharing it with us. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Oh my gosh, those tiny little blocks would have brought me to a screeching halt. Wow, you really did an amazing job on making them for this sweet pumpkin quilt! Halloween doesn't have to be scary and you've proven that with this pretty pumpkin quilt. Thank you for hopping with us!

  6. How perfect with your tiny! I too enjoy the fall colors without the Halloweenisms. Beautifully done, thanks!

  7. You know, I don't think I have ever sewn anything with a pumpkin on it.That is some tiny piecing.

  20. I have sewn many projects with pumpkins on them. Autumn is my favorite season so I have a lot of decorations. I really liked your idea of the different fabrics for 2 of the sides and mitering them. I’ve stalled on several projects because I didn’t have enough border fabric to go around. Great idea. Thanks.

  21. Well you bet I have sewn something with pumpkins on it, in fact working on 2 identical little wall hangings with pumpkins on it today. Your little quilt turned out adorable with those teeny tiny 4 patches.

  41. I was foolded – I thought at first it was a much bigger quilt. I am not so sure I would have been happy with those teeny strips but it looks fab!

  42. Hi Bea: Can you help out a beginner and post/share the whole pattern for the mini quilt. I need more instructions since I have a hard time just winging it (or I end up in a LOT of trouble, LOL). This is really cute and I think it would be perfect for top of my treadle sewing machine. Thanks, Sandra
