Thank you to Carol for hosting this fun blog hop!
I had to double check if she actually wanted me to make something or just exchange a recipe and well I decided on both
I started thinking about a cookie recipe, do I have a family cookie recipe? No! Then I started thinking about Danish Christmas cookies and we have some called Pebbernodder, and thanks to google I found a site with danish recipes (I think I found another recipe on this site for something else a long time ago)
Directly translated they are called Pepper nut cookies!
I then recruited my little helpers and we set to work!
Here’s what the dough looked like after a lot of kneading!
(oh and there were a few of the ingredients I didn’t have- ginger and clove, but oh well…. can’t go wrong with butter, flour and sugar and all the rest)
The dough is really thick and gets rolled into logs and cut into tiny sections and rolled into balls.
Then in the oven and this is the result!
They tasted pretty good, I missed the ginger and clove taste, but the kids don’t know that!!
Then I figured I wanted to show something SEWN
I searched for a cookie ITH pincushion and found this on emblibrary
A cute little gingerbread man and frame, I thought it would make a cute pincushion, so I made the block and sewed a backing on it and stuffed with crushed walnut shells
as you may know, I host a pincushion swap, so I sent these off to TX!

The needle work on your pin cushion is spectacular!
Sounds like an interesting recipe. Looks like you had a fun day. What a cute pincusion!
I am sure it was fun having the girls help with the cookies. And that GB pincushion is adorable!
What lovely little helpers! So much fun to have the wee babes in the kitchen. Mine are 23 and 26 now so…. grandmum is enjoying just having the 10 month old wee one now!
Those cookies look great–I bet your helpers will particularly enjoy them. The pin cushions are cute! Thanks for sharing.
You had some good help, there, and I'm sure those cookies were tasty. Cute pincushions!
Oh my goodness, those pincushions are delightful and will certainly be loved in Texas. Such a fun post to read, Bea, and your pictures fun to see. Merry Christmas!

What lovely little helpers you have (little Elves ?). Thanks for sharing your recipe for Danish Peppernuts. I want to make them. They look yummy.
Hi Bea! These look a fun to make, especially with your special helpers. I have a Danish background, and have had these as a child. Thank you for sharing the recipe – I'll add it to my repertoire. I love the little pincushion to made as well. Very festive! I have family that live in Advance, NC. Is that near you? Happy Happy Wednesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne
Your cookies look yummy and your helpers are adorable. The gingerbread man pincushion is sew cute. Thanks for sharing in the hop … 🙂 Pat
It is so much fun making cookies with littles!! They make it the best!! Your pinnies are adorable! Where do you find real wool felt?? Thank you for sharing with us today!
Ha ha….you should always have clove and ginger in your pantry. Those are two of several that I used today making granola. I also used cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom.
Yummy, love your helpers
Your cookie recruits looked like they had a great time!! What fun to all be in the kitchen!
Thanks for sharing the link for these cookies. They look yummy. Love that gingerbread man pincushion. Cute!
I see that they use white pepper – I guess that is where the name comes from. I always loved rolling dough – I am sure your kids had a great time. The spices are a little sophisticated for kids, so the next time they can have the real thing.
What great helpers and I'm sure they'll be requesting to make the cookies again. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your helpers are just too cute! That sounds like a fine cookie to me, even without ginger and clove. It looks like the perfect cookie for dipping one end in melted white chocolate and sprinkling sparingly with red sugar, too! Thanks for the recipe. Your pincushions are great – I do like the little gingerbread man you found.
What sweet pincushions and your helpers are just too cute! Cookies look yummy!
Your cookie sounds great and your helpers are even cuter than your pincushions!! Thanks for sharing!
What better way to spend a day but in the kitchen with the little ones. With the smiles on your faces, I know everyone had a great time. Something in the back of my head tells me I have heard of Pepper Nut cookies…I have to wonder if it wasn't something from my childhood. No Swedish in my family though???? Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Cute pinnie, and oh my your helpers have gotten so big. Your cookies look yummy.
We always had to have Pepper Nuts cookies at Christmas while I was growing up. It was one of my Dad's favorites – he loved that they were so hard and just perfect for floating in a cup of coffee and eating them with a spoon! Did you know they were originally called pfeffernusse? I came from German ancestors so I'm assuming the name was German, too. So glad you include the kids in making them.
My brother's ex used to make those cookies. Not a fan, with the cloves in them. Cute potholder!
cookies look wonderful and pin cushions are fabulous.
