Up for another sampler QAL??

I finally went back to the local library yesterday after being kicked out some months ago for not wearing a mask (though I kept my distance as the library was almost empty) Anyways, I found the “lacking” quilt section with about 10 books total and I picked up the Farmer’s wife sampler book AGAIN!

And now I started reading the whole “Farmer’s Wife” story and letters- VERY interesting!

I’m not really into reproduction fabrics but I love looking at sampler quilts and “figuring” out the blocks and it’s been a while since I picked it up and now I looked at it with “Accuquilt” eyes and actually wrote down which ones were based off of 4×4 or 6×6 grids etc…. Then I figured which blocks were Accuquilt QUBE friendly. And the 3×3 and 6×6 blocks had the most and were the most FUN! So I sat down and sorted them and colored them into a more traditional layout and plain colors.

I picked 35 blocks and figured that with the 6″ QUBE the blocks would be 9″ so a quilt with sashing and borders would be 60″ x 81″

I thought of Christmas and what if I did a QAL and did a block a week? well there’s 38 weeks until Christmas so it would be a squeaker, to have time to get fabrics and make the blocks and finish the quilt? Or I could do it in Winter colors?

Who would want to join me? I haven’t figured a color scheme yet, but this is the basic idea.

I could still do a block per week or maybe 2 blocks on some weeks as there’s several blocks which are pretty close to each other!?

I can’t charge for this as the book is not mine and I might get into trouble is I do that?! I don’t think I’d get into trouble for promoting the book and making blocks from the book and showing those?!!!

Let me know if you want to join and if you prefer 1 or 2 blocks per week.

I have the book and some rotary cutting directions but never got started on it so I might try to follow along. i’d prefer one block a week.

I have the book, and have always wanted to do this. I’m in! Since I still work full-time, one block might be enough.

  2. I would enjoy doing this as well. I try to use my Accuquilt gear as much as possible and I already have the Farmer’s Wife book. I do love reading it and seeing history through contemporary eyes.

I would love to do this as the next QAL. I would prefer one block a week as I do other projects at the same time. I have the 6″ Qube and 6″ Companions. Hope that will be okay. I think it would be great with white and scraps. Very colorful. Thank you for continuing the QALs. I love them.

  4. Diane M Hughes

I would love a QAL. I’ve never done one with Beaquilter. I would prefer a block a week.

  5. Sounds like fun. I would be using my rotary cutter or templates to cut my blocks.

I have the book and would like to do this QAL….I was thinking about using the 4 Qube though…or not……I, too, look at almost any pattern to see if I can use my qubes,

  7. I’ve had the book for a while now. Would love to try it with AccuQuilt! I’d prefer one block per week. Thanks!

I would like to try this. I have never seen this book, might look for it on Amazon. i am glad you will be showing how to use the Qubes to do the quilt. I only have the 10″ cubes which means I would by able to put in less blocks

    1. There’s 2 books, the second book is more modern, not sure if it’s the same blocks or not, but I forgot about the book when I found the 1st one at the library, but Amazon has both!

  9. I to have the book, it on the to do list. I’m up for another sew a long. One or two a week would work for me. I’m in.

  10. Yes I would be interested in farmers wife blocks— did some in the past and go the book—interested in hearing how Accuquilt blocks can be produced with farmer wife blocks….one a week for me too.

Absolutely. I have already built this in EQ8 and pulled some civil war fabrics. This one will be a king size for my be. Will use 8″ Qube instead. If sure is nice of you to be so generous. Now I want to read the letters. Need to check out our library. If not I guess I will have to purchase.

    1. I had it in EQ as well, maybe from the book from the last time I borrowed the book? This book’s CD cover is unopened so I don’t want to break the seal.

  12. I would be interested in doing this. One block a week at the beginning works for me.
    Thanks!

  13. I would love to do this QAL. I guess I would need the book, I only have The Farmers Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt.
I would like one block a week.

I own that book! I’m in! Two blocks a week would be fine with me.

  15. Cheryl Keating

Sounds good. A block a week. I use a rotary cutter for my cutting.

I am so happy to see someone is willing and able to convert some of these blocks. I have the 8 inch qube and companions. It will make it a larger quilt, but that will be okay by me.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing more about this.

  17. I had the book, but figured I would never get around to making it and gave it away! (No regrets)
But I would definitely enjoy using my Accuquilt Qube to make a sampler.
I can only handle one block per week.
    Thank you !

  18. I have the book but no accuquilt cutting machine. I will be interested in following along and use your helpful tips and instructions as best as I can. Thanks!

  19. Terry Morris

I would be interested, but do not have an accuquilt cutting machine.

    1. You can follow the book then, or I might give a few rotary cutting directions at the beginning but it’s more for the dies

  20. I have the book and never started. I have the 8″ cube set so I would be using this if you think it would be possible. One per week would be good but I can always catch up if you post 2. thank you for doing this.

  21. Hi. Just wondered how the 6″block will end up being 9″. I plan on getting the book-looks interesting

  22. Hi. Just wondered how the 6″block will end up being 9″. With my 10″cube my blocks without additional sashing, etc

    1. Most blocks will be based off of a 6×6 grid, so it would be 1.5 times the size of the qube set, so with the 10″ qube set your blocks would be 15″

  23. I’m in also 1 block a week would be great I have 9” cube set so will each block end up 13.5” ? Suits me if it does finished will be 13” ? Thanks for putting them on .

    1. That works! Yes it would FINISH 13.5″ (14″ unfinished) I know the Math is a little wonky with the 9″ qube, but it’ll be ok I think 🙂
