Tutorial Tuesday–Setting embroidery on Quilt

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

Today I’ll show you a fun little way to add your applique (or embroidery) designs from EQ Stitch onto a quilt.

First I started with a basic log cabin quilt layout

here the blocks are 16” so the center is 4”

image

Then I found a few applique leaf blocks (search for LEAF)

added those to the sketchbook

-unless you want to look for blocks in the stitching library?? I like to do my own-

image

Now open the sketchbook/Blocks and under the MOTIF tab you’ll see the leaves and click EDIT for one of them.

image

If you don’t want to change anything, just select all and COPY

(CTRL A, then CTRL C)

image

Click on WORK ON STITCHING

image

Then make sure it’s an applique block and have the hoop be 100 x 100mm (4”)

image

on the artwork tab, PASTE the leaf (CTRL V)

and move to the center of the block

image

image

now click the FABRIC tab and pick some fabrics

image

The the stitch tab

select the “set applique” button on the right

image

The change to E stitch or Zig Zag and change the density to your liking,

image

then color the stitches to match the fabric and add to cketchbook

image

Do the same with the other leaves.

Once you have enough leaves, go back to the quilt and go to layer 3!!

Click the “set embellishment” button

image

Pick a leaf

image

on the quilt hold down SHIFT and click and drag a box around the middle of the log cabin block to insert a leaf.

image

click the adjust tool and select the leaf, then change the size to fit within the center part, I chose to do my leaf 3 1/2”

image

add in one of each leaf and flip or rotate if you want

image

I want to alternate the placement, so pick the SELECT tool again and drag a box around the last 3 leaves

image

Copy and paste those

and move them down to the left in the 2nd row

then copy and past the far left leaf and move it down to the right spot

image

Continue doing this for the next 2 rows, the last row is a copy of the first row, so copy and paste the whole row

This is how the quilt would look

  1. That's a really interesting idea. Thanks. I'll have to think about it. I can't ME them, but I could hand do them, or applique leaves.
