Tutorial Tuesday- New York and Edit arc tool

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

This week’s tutorial is both about a tool you may not have used much and also featuring a special block Smile

The New York Beauty block!

If you search under blocks for “new york” you’ll get these 5.

image

Add them to sketchbook and edit #1

image

Now if you wanted to maybe add some more “stuff” to the outer ring, click the outer ring line with the SHAPE tool and RIGHT click and click EDIT

image

You’ll see the edit arc box

image

the HALF AND THIRDS will add points at the half way point or thirds, or you can click half numerous times and it add half and half of that and half of that etc.

If you click partition and leave it at 5, it breaks it into 5 sections, so 4 points and the beginning and ending lines

image

stagger, will move it in half a width and then add 5 points

image

I like the 5 partition

Then draw some lines from the points of the triangles to these points.

image

You can also play with the inner line

Let’s color it and see what it would look like.

I used stonehenge from the 03-2014 fabric download on EQ’s website

image

Let’s see what it will look like in a quilt

image

here I made the layout 4 x 4 and changed the colors around on every other block

and with a border and NO block outlines

FUN!!

Have you tried the ARC edit tool or even made a NY beauty quilt or just designed one in EQ?

Nice job on this one! I haven't had a chance to play with the arc tool–so busy sewing!

I have never played with the arc tool but now I might have to as I would love to make a New York Beauty quilt.

I'd never heard of the New York Beauty Block, how is it constructed?

I have played with the arc.. and even designed a quilt before our computer crashed and I lost it all. 🙁 Haven't played with it again.. yet. 😉
