Tova top done!

Last week I saw THIS top done on Cut to pieces

and I just LOVED it, and found it here

I bought it and printed out the pattern, then used Swedish tracing paper which my neighbor had given me some of, love that stuff!

And I started cutting into the blue paisley batik Gwen had given me from Singapore!

Here’s the result!

(I got hubby to take the pics in front of his QR quilt)

It’s very comfortable and a great learning process with this inset in the front, but honestly I don’t like 3/4 sleeves, I think it’s because I’m short that I feel it doesn’t look right on me. Next time I’ll either lengthen the sleeves or shorten them, now WHAT fabric should I use? it uses 2 1/2yds and often I just buy 2yds from ozark, but I COULD made the front and back in sections and have it flair out more with a different fabric from the waist maybe? I still like the top and I’m sure I’ll wear it more in the fall, it’s still upper 80s here so not yet!

It’s a fun shirt though…… I want to make another one soon!

Part of me wants to go wild on it, after all I’m a fabric “artist” but then I think about what other people would think about me wearing it and I hold off on making something.

Do you ever feel like that?

  1. Beautiful top Bea! It fit's you perfectly. If it flaired out more, I think it would look sloppy. Just my opinion. The 3/4 sleeves look great, but I love that length of sleeve because it makes us look slimmer than long sleeves.Fantastic pictures of you and Sonja together.

  2. Your top is lovely. I used to sew all my own clothes and wish now I could get back into it. I think it is the fitting of the patterns that is holding me back. I admire you doing all the different types of projects you do. As to wearing your art, I had worn many of my artsy clothing, but it was to teach elementary school and was the thing to do. But I am thinking I might try something. In fact I saw a bog coat described on the internet and then found Shirley Adams showing in a YouTube video how to do it. So simple from one piece of fabric, 3 simple seams and so many ways we can embellish it. Looking forward to your next post.

  3. I love the look of the top! I actually prefer 3/4 length sleeves. I have long arms and long sleeves always look too short, so I go with 3/4 length so that isn't an issue. My daughter wears very artsy clothes, often of her own making, and she is very comfortable in them. I know I am more conservative in my style. Wear what feels good to you.

  4. I love the shirt you made. I am short and like wearing three quarter length sleeves. I have short arms and if I wear long sleeves they usually come down over my hands. You did a really nice job!

  5. I think your top turned out beautiful and that fabric is gorgeous. I know what you mean about 3/4 inch sleeves. I am not short so for me I always feel like they look like there wasn't enough fabric.
