Tombow 100th Birthday

Not too long ago I saw this post on Sewcalgal’s blog about Tombow.

And it brought back memories of when I used to work At Office Depot’s corporate office in Delray Beach, FL at the call center.

One time we were promoting Tombow’s mono adhesive

and the way I sold quite a few was telling the ladies that called in that if their pant leg hem came undone, they could use the adhesive to tape it back together for the day!

Tombow Celebrates “100 Days of Tombow”

Centennial Year Program Highlights Work of Mommy Bloggers Making a Difference in their Homes, Schools and Communities

ATLANTA – March 4, 2013 – For 100 years Tombow has been creating innovative products that help everyday artists do their best work in art, craft and office supply environments.   Crafters worldwide have coined their experiences using these products as “Tombow Time”, and share virally how they create, celebrate and decorate with the help of Tombow’s extensive product portfolio.

Saturday, March 9, at the National Art Education Association Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, Tombow will kick off its “100 Days of Tombow” program by committing to provide up to $10,000 of Tombow art products to the Council for Art Education, a national nonprofit dedicated to promoting and supporting art education and quality art programs nationwide.

Tombow seeks to leverage its centennial year by spearheading new avenues of creative growth for the next 100 years. To that end, it’s working with crafters and mommy bloggers to reach younger demographics and introduce Tombow to a fresh, new audience.  “We’re parlaying our 100-year platform to educate crafting bloggers in the young singles, newlywed and new mom audiences on ways to use our eco-friendly products to enrich their world with color, texture and design,” said Jeff Hinn – president, American Tombow.

For its “100 Days of Tombow” program, the company is working with 100 different bloggers across America to spotlight their creative musings using Tombow’s products, and showcasing how “Tombow Time” is enjoyed across the nation.

Tombow sent me this LOVELY “kit”

An adhesive runner, a pack of awesome colored pencils and a cool pack of markers!

The adhesive runner is also a stamper, so if you want to RUN the adhesive across the paper and just STAMP some in the corners of the paper/picture, you can do it either way! SO COOL!

When I opened these colored pencils, I thought they were SO beautiful.

I have a weakness for colored pencils and right away had to roll each pencil so it showed the color name on the top.

I’ve drawn since I was very little, as an only child, my parents could take me anywhere and as long as I had some paper and colored pencils I could sit and draw for HOURS!

I did keep one NICE box into adulthood, but after having kids I let them play with them and now they are “who knows where”.

So this box is ALL mine!! he he Smile

These colors are beautiful in nice muted colors

The markers I used to color a rubber stamp and stamp on paper

It’s hard to see but it’s cute and not inky and sloppy like INKS.

Then I started to experiment with fabrics!

I colored with the colored pencils on fabric and tried to Heat set one of them and not the other

P1020995

Then soaked them a little in water and dried them again- no difference!

So the color pencils are GREAT for that! I want to use them for coloring on quilts!!!

P1020993

I remembered I had this little “snowflake” I had embroidered, so I colored in all the shapes in purple and blues.

Looks NICE!

Then I figured I’d turn it into a pin cushion.

I trimmed it square first then cut 45 degree corners and also made a hanging tag and stuffed it with walnut shells

Here it is on my long arm!

  1. I too get excited when I hold a bunch of colored pencils. Always fun to create with them. Thanks for the insight on using these pencils on fabric.SewCalGalwww.sewcalgal.blogspot.com

  2. I gave Sew Cal Gal my name to forward to Tombow but I haven't heard a thing from them. Nice score for you.

  3. What fun products! Another blogger recently shared how she is using crayons on fabric to enhance some embroidery work she's been stitching. So many different ideas!

  4. This is great to be able to color fabric with pencil crayons. I has used crayons in fabric , thanks for letting us know about tomBow

  5. That looks like fun. I'd be interested. I've used the dual brush pens with my card stamping quite a bit in the past, but I haven't done any scrapbooking or cardmaking since I left Phoenix in 2005.

  6. I would be interested in the 100 Days of Tombow. I would hope I could come up with a lovely project like you did.

  7. Very cool. You KNOW that I'll be using that coloring on fabric idea in the future.
