It’s my turn to show a quilt for the blog hop hosted and sponsored by Island Batik!
My collection of fabrics were the surprise fabrics in box #1 (from the beginning of the year)
It’s called Dragonfly dreams
and it’s available here of at your local quilt store
It’s a fun and bright collection!
I got 1/2yd of each and some of the “neutral” as yardage and one more fabric as yardage.
I came up with this sketch in EQ
I used my 8” Accuquilt QUBE set, but each block is actually 1.5 sized! so 12” finished
From each of the fabrics (except the background fabric) I cut out (2) #13 triangles for triangle in a square and also cut out some #4 QSTs, the die cuts out 4, I put the extra 2 aside.
Then in the background fabric, I cut a bunch of large #1 squares and the #14 side triangles.
It was going to be interesting to sew together as the “neutral” is not very neutral but kind of wild in colors!
Then I sewed together the triangle in a square blocks sections and QSTs
Some fabrics had a right side up so I made sure to have the fabrics face the right way
And soon the blocks were done!
(They are called Arkansas stars btw)
Then I sewed together the top, added an inner border in the “neutral” and a purple outer border.
The top measures 47” x 59”
I had enough of the purple for the binding too!
Here’s the quilt all quilted and bound.
My husband named it “spiked punch”
I tried a new template for the outer border, then did feathers and curves on the blocks, I knew it wouldn’t be seen much as it’s such a busy background.
The background was a floral fabric that a friend gave me in Denmark (her mom was my sewing teacher in Elementary school!) The fabric was wide and I got just enough, so no seams!! and I thought it was fun and funky and would match the front well

Such a beautiful quilt and such a great use of the fabric. Great that you have the cutter to make things easier.
It does remind me of spiked punch!

You're right, the neutral isn't very neutral, but it worked well as the background for Spiked Punch 🙂 Your quilt turned out beautifully and the gifted fabric was perfect for the backing.
I live how colorful your quilt is. Even though your background fabric is colorful the stars really stand out.
Great name! That's a really great collection of fabrics, too.
