I can finally show this secret quilt I have been working on since May.
Our pastor announced in March (I think) that he was retiring- but will stay around and do mission work etc.
Another quilter and I “schemed” then to make both him and his wife AND our new pastor and wife (our youth pastor) a quilt each where people at church could sign the quilts and eventually the quilts would be sent home to the rightful owners.
So Cathy picked a pattern which was a ton of scrap strips and I busted out my 1Â 1/2″ strip cutter die and my white scraps and white print scraps and later my beige scraps and set to work.
The pattern is called “Have a heart”
we both agreed on the smaller size and she wanted her heart to be in blue batiks
I wanted mine in red scraps and I threw in some patriotic fabrics too!
the process was very interesting as you sew all the strips from each color into a huge long strip (or several shorter) and then sub cut for each row in the quilt, I guess it gives it more randomness!
I worked a few rows at a time to make sure I got it right
and here’s mine all done!
The the last Sunday in June we both gave the quilts to them as it was our pastor’s last Sunday, others gave gifts too I think, but these had to be “presented” so people knew to sign them later.
Hopefully they’ll like them 🙂 I’ll try to take pictures when the quilts are all full of writing….
Of course they’ll all like them! What a wonderful idea, and a wonderful pattern. It could be increased slightly in size by just making a 2″ strip, too, if one wanted to, I think. I really like the pattern in either color, but your presentation picture is so sweet.
Wow just amazing how beautiful the quilts look!
aww thanks, they were fun to make
