I got the chance to play with one of Accuquilt’s new BOB dies called Star and Cross
I like combining BOBs with other dies, either the maching QUBE set or other BOB dies, so in EQ I looked and played with the pineapple die, as that finishes at 10″ as well as this Star and cross die and I came up with this layout
Then I started cutting! and because I used a directional fabric, I cut half upside down, it was a bit tricky to keep track of.
I helps to lay out the pieces after they are cut, how they will be in the quilt block!
My pineapple die started lifting the blades a bit! so I had to press down on the mat before laying fabrics down, to push the blades back in place, it cut just fine but was a bit annoying, I guess I need a new die!? It’s never happened to me before, I’ve only swapped out ONE die before throughout all the years of using Accuquilt dies, I think it was die #5 from the 8″ QUBE, which is the work horse of the set! a corner of the blade got bent, but it was ok, just annoying.
After all the pieces were cut, I put them in my storage bin (notice I swapped out the green for a yellow instead)
Then I started sewing, 6 of each block, the center of the pineapple block and the start of the star and cross block which is really a nine patch in the middle!
and the blocks are growing! with the star and cross block, I had to keep track of the directional fabrics!
and with the pineapple blocks, so my “rule” was the top two fabrics face out and the bottom two face in, so they are sort of right side up!

I forgot to take pictures of the top before quilting it, here it is all done!
I added a wide yellow inner border, then a skinny white and then a wide animal border and then yellow binding.
The quilt measures 42″ x 52″
I quilted a large leaf vine design in a seafoam colored thread
Because the quilt was bigger than a WOF I added a stripe of leftover green/seafoam down the middle
I used about 1 3/4yd white
1 1/4yd animal main print
1/2yd turquoise
1/2yd yellow plus binding and backing
