It’s just a busy blog hop week!
Both Carol and I are hosting blog hops this week and both of us are participating in each others hops too!
The last blog hop (black and white hop) I showed a birdie mini quilt and it could also fit with this “wings”” theme.
also recently I showed an orphan block turned into a mini quilt, it’s a butterfly that could also fit the “wings” theme.
BUT….
I decided I wanted to make something FOR this blog hop.
I got so many lovely comments on the birdie quilt that I wanted to try this again with a twist!
I was mulling over ideas for a while and then one day my 6yr old daughter was cutting fabrics and playing and she got out a scrap of almost black dark blue fabric and I got the idea for a bird at night time, then instead of the bird die I thought of the owl die!
The scrap of fabric that my daughter played with was too small but I found this other dark blue fabric, then I found the owl die and lite steam a seam 2
I cut out a few owl pieces after backing them with steam a seam 2, the eyeballs are actually a pale yellow
I then got out some fun threads, some brown, black and this new gold thread from Coats!
I ironed a stabilizer on to the back of the blue fabric at first and did a bit of thread art then realized I should probably treat it like a quilt, so I added batting and back and then stitched some more
It’s hard to see the different browns and I also did a sideways branch and a little “hole” in the tree, it’s too small for the owl, but maybe it’s “just” perspective?
After a while I added the owl and then decided to also add a 3″ circle in beige as the moon and the owl sits on it’s branch looking up at the full moon!
I also outlined some places in gold
The gold thread really sparkles!
When doing thread art with gold thread you have to go a bit slower, and have a different color in the bobbin, other than that it works like regular thread.
The finished piece is about 12″ x 14″
I hung it under my dry erase board behind my long arm frame.
Have you ever tried these gold or silver threads by Coats and Clark?
Now is your chance!
Coats and Clark is sponsoring a giveaway of a spool of each color to a lucky winner

That Fabric Feeling
Have a look!
I love your owl. How cute are his eyes 😍 😍
I knew Bea would make an owl – you are the owl lady. What a cute mini.
You make the cutest owls! I haven't tried thread art but I have a friend who has done it and her work is gorgeous. Someday I hope to try it and have her give me some pointers.
I adore your night owl! The stitching accents are perfect too.
This owl is adorable with his big eyes and the wonderful stitching brings him to life.
I haven't done a lot of thread art, but I have played with it a bit. I would love the gold and silver threads.
Very cool owl. Love that he's just sitting there looking at the moon. That this is the week of the Snow moon is just perfect timing for this great guy. Oh and the tree is wonderful.
Cute mini and so fitting as we had a beautiful full moon last night. I commented to my husband that it looked like the cover of a child’s book called Owl Moon. Thanks for sharing! Janice.snell@gmail.com
I love how you quilted in the tree! Nice job. Thanks for sharing.MelvaLovesScraps(at)NolanQualityCustoms(dot)com
Your owl is so neat and cute! So pretty! Enjoy your day! I have not done thread art yet. 🙂 angielovesgary2 atgmail dotcom
Such a cute project. Thanks for the inspiration
I am happy to see so many owls in this hop. Your mini is so cute. Denise-For the love of geese
You inspire me by your creativity. You're teaching me to just go for it!
Your owl is adorable and stitching with the gold thread was a great idea. So fun to make it sparkle! Thread art is on my need to learn list. Thanks for hopping with us and sharing your wings!
No I have not done thread art yet. Sure on my list to try. Years ago I tried a silver thread and that turned out to be a mess. I think the problem, my machine at time, just wouldn't take it. Ready to try again. Thanks for sharing and inspiring with the thread and your adorable mini.quilting dash lady at Comcast dot net
Good morning Bea. I love the owl project and the gold thread makes it sparkle–so pretty! Thank you for sharing today.Yes, I have done a little thread art, not a lot, but I liked what I did. I think it is time to do some more. Thank you for the giveaway.
I have not done thread art, it is very pretty, though. Thank you, peterstankovich@comcast.net
Good Morning! No, I have never used that pretty sparkly thread in either gold or silver by Coats and Clark. It sure looks gorgeous on that little basket. I just love the owl mini wall hanging you made – those eyes are just perfect! ~smile~ Roseanne
Love the owl. I’m going to have to try those threads. Thanks for such a great hop!
Sweet owl.
I love you owl. His eyes work really well, peering up at the full moon. The gold thread certainly finished off the quilting perfectly. I haven't done thread art really. I have done quite a bit of on the fly touches to my quilts as well as turning logos and designs into quilting, but no heavy art. Thanks for the chance to win.
I have never done thread art. Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
That owl is just too cute. That's one die and have used a lot. There are so many fun animals you can make with it. Thanks for the give away too. I love stitching with metallics!
Very cute little owl. Thank you for sharing your wings in the hop … 🙂 Pat
I have not done any thread art. The owl quilt is so cute!
I've experimented a bit with different types of thread but haven't yet progressed to actual thread art.
And love your owl quilt!
The stitching in of the tree is very effective. Very nice. I have done lots of hand embroidery. I don't know if any of that counts as thread art.
Cute owl project and I haven't done any thread art yet.
Thank You for Hopping and sharing your Wings.
Awww, your little owl is precious and your stitches are wonderful.
Love the way you quilted in the tree for Mr. Owl! His expression in just darling.
What a sweet owl! I haven't done much thread art, but I sure do appreciate it!
Haven't done thread art yet. Would love to learn how. — soparkaveataoldotcom
I love the owl. I have done nothing with thread art other then admire it.
Your owl quilt is just sparkling. I love the way you did it easy, but still looking so fantastic.
I love your owl, although I was waiting to read that you'd also added some glow in the dark thread! Somehow it just looks like it should have glow in the dark elements… perhaps it's the eyes. The metallic sparkle fits the bill too though.
I love your cute owl quilt!
I have done a little thread art, but I want to do more. Your little quilt inspired me.
Love your starry night scene! I've used the owl in a quilt before and the results were so fun! Just do it in those dark colors! I have done a bit of thread art but so little it doesn't count, and only used metallic to hang free ornaments. Haha
Your owl is awesome. I like your tree, and the sparkly thread just adds to it. I have never used the coats and clark, but other brands.
What a fun owl! And that gold thread is AMAZING! Outlining the tree with it was a great choice and it really stands out! Fun project!
What an adorable owl quilt!
I have tried thread art. Your owl is cute.
Love the owl quilt. I haven't done thread painting yet, but want to learn. Another blogger friend is coming to our guild in August, and teaching thread painting.
