(sorry if you’re getting emails twice the last few days, my website was actually down then in the process of getting it back up, some things showed up twice and some, not at all- I’m keeping an eye out for the emails and will adjust the settings when it seems “normal” again)
I finally finished this fun scrappy quilt!
I started this as a scrappy in-between leader and ender project back in February.
First I used the Priscilla die to cut out a gazillion pieces in orange, teal and solid white, I just love this die because the pieces are SO small!
and it looks like the die is on SALE for $50.99 instead of $84.99!!
The blocks are 6″ Finished, that means each quadrant is 3″ and those angled stripes are TINY! I don’t even know if they are 1″ Fin…. they are really great for scrap busting!
When I start with a scrap project, I usually look at my scrap bins first and write down which ones are REALLY full and then figure out what colors go well together, then I often sit with EQ8 and sketch some ideas like this one!
Then I start cutting! Here there’s 80 blocks so that’s 640 orange pieces, 320 white triangles and 960 teal/turquoise scraps! a total of 1920 pieces plus the borders!
Then I started sewing!
and sewing them into rows/columns
since I had this orange butterfly fabric, I tried to have those face right side up on all the blocks and not have the same teal or orange fabrics in the same blocks and not touching on the columns!
this was the top without borders, then I think I put it aside and waited for the right border fabric.
I finally got that and added a skinny white border then some orange for the outer border and a teal binding!
The quilt measures 56″ x 68″
Here’s some fun closeups of the blocks and the quilting
I “almost” want to turn it into a pattern, but it’s “just” a die and “just” one block repeated, plus it might require templates or FPP, and most people don’t want that. So I don’t know…
Here’s some ideas from EQ, if you use the randomize magic wand tool and “shift hues” it’s easy to change the colors with ONE click!!
I already cut out grey and black pieces for a small quilt- I guess for a nursing home or hospice, we’ll see.
That’s a lot of scrappy goodness! 🙂
I like the red and green one – Christmas or not! I wouldn’t want to piece that, even with the Accuquilt, but it would be so easy and fast with FPP – and I’m not the person who could ever be expected to say that! Your finish is beautiful. Who gets that one? =)
