I thought I had an EQ sketch for this but now I can’t find it, well it’s a basic Ohio Star Block and matching nine patch, then a 1″ border and maybe a 3″ or 4″ border. the quilt measures 36″ x 44″, I always print out the sketch from EQ and write notes on it about what dies to use etc.
I know I used the 6″ QUBE set and dies #4 for the ohio star part, then dies #3 and #1 for the rest.
It was a leader and ender quilt for a while and often I note down what scrap bins are overflowing and then pick some of those colors for a fun “free” quilt and also sort of plan the border fabrics, if the yardage for the borders are less than 1/2yd or less than 1yd and that might determine the colors of the blocks as well.
Here I used a bit of black yardage, then grey scraps, light purple scraps then white print scraps but used scrap chunks I had a bunch of and my rule was that the print had to match the other colors but I found this pink and white dotted scrap where I had enough to cut all the large half square triangles, then the white scraps for the quarter square triangles I found a print with black rectangles, another pink print and a print with birds on it in pink and purple so that seemed perfect.
During construction of the blocks I made sure the direction of the fabrics were right and that the same white print fabric wasn’t with the same in the QST blocks and I sort of planned where the QSTs would go with the blocks too so there wouldn’t be too much of one print in a block, it was a fun project to work on! I don’t have a recipient in mind for this and it’s too dark to be a baby quilt so maybe I’ll add to the pile of hospice quilts? I really need to sort my quilts for donations, my shelves are overflowing again!!
Here’s a close up of the quilt blocks and quilting.
See how I don’t have much space left above my cabinets because the wall/ceiling has a bend in it right there, time to sort them!!
Just had to tell you I watched the Accuquilt patriotic video where you had several quilts in it!! Nice work Bea:)
