When I showed my idea last week of a scrappy chain quilt, a few of you were interested in a Quilt Along, so here it IS!!
I will sew /quilt this along with you, I’m using mine as a leader and ender project (so far)
Each week on Monday I’ll do a post with a LINKY and you can link up any progress you did on these during the week before, I’ll stop at the end of the year- is that enough time??
Here’s the directions for a 60” x 78” quilt
I found that everything matched up with CHARM squares and I have/had a bunch of those, at some point I used my own scraps and cut into charms, 2 1/2” strips and sorted by color, didn’t matter what line of fabric they came from, not a GREAT plan, but oh well….
time to use them up
(I also had some 6” squares cut those up too)
There’s 48 blocks in this quilt, so first find DOUBLE set of 48 charm squares (5”) so 96 total, the 2 squares HAVE to be the same.
Put those aside
Separate the 48 and 48 and mark a diagonal line down one set of 48
Now find or cut another (48) 5” squares
and pair up sets with the ones you already marked and give them a nice contrast.
From the matching (48) 5” squares you put aside cut these into (4) 2 1/2” squares
From scraps or another (48) 5” squares cut another set of (48) 2 1/2” squares X 4 (same as above just different fabrics)
Now cut (120) 2 1/2” x 4 1/2” rectangles for the border pieces.
If you want to cut the inner border too now, it’s (2) 2 1/”2” x 64 1/2”
and (2) 2 1/2” x 52 1/2”
The block!
Here’s how to sew them together:
On the 5” square set with the diagonal line, sew 1/4” on each side of the line.
Also sew 4 of the matching 2 1/2” squares together with 4 of the NEW 2 1/2” squares.
Cut down the middle of the 5” square, iron all toward the dark
Trim the HST blocks to 4 1/2”
Sew the 2 1/2” square sections into four patches
Now sew the four patches to the HST blocks and iron toward the four patches
And sew block together.
(Now I didn’t follow my own advise and use more contrast, oh well)
Have fun!!
I’ll do a linky next monday!
Oh yeah! This will be fun.
It will be a great quilt–wish I had time to sew along.
You are so funny…loved when you said you didn't follow your own advice!! LOL

This is a great block! I have the pattern for blocks 1&2, and 5&6 for the Sampler Block Quilt along 2013. Is it still possible to get the other blocks? Nancy: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
Ok, I will be trying to use all the blocks I have cut from leftovers of other projects. They are in boxes sorted by size. I am ready for a new project.
I'd love to work along with you, thanks for sharing.
