Are you excited to start this QAL?
The pattern is “Rising Star” and you can get it here in my shop, sorry I don’t have the paper patterns available yet
This quilt is made for the 8in QUBE and companion set that includes the trapezoid #16 shape, but of course I also provide rotary cutting instructions and template for everything. If you want to use another QUBE set, then I have a chart on the last page that shows how much fabric you’ll need of each color and what the finished quilt size will be, I just don’t provide rotary cutting directions but you just follow the shape #s from the beginning of the pattern.
I really LOVE my Accuquilt QUBE sets and have them all- it sure helps to work for the company, huh??
As I’ve done in the past with QALs, I decided to make another size too, so I’m making one with the 8in QUBE AND the 4in QUBE set- it’s so TINY, I LOVE IT!!
Once you have your pattern, I highly recommend that you precut EVERYTHING first! With QUBE dies too, it’s just easier to cut the widest WOF strip, then cut however many pieces you need from one die then use the leftover strip for the next die and continue that way, so for the 8in QUBE, I first cut #4, then #16, #2, #3, #1, #5 and #6.
Here I cut out everything in solid white, light grey, dark grey, black, turquoise and blue – all from connecting threads btw!
Then I browsed CT’s website and found a cute fabric line and entered it into EQ and came up with this for the 4in QUBE set!
and I cut all those out- a bit tricky to decide which is dark or light green, but it’ll be ok!
My pattern includes a coloring sheet so you can play around with different colors!
Now on to making block A, it will finish 16″ as it’s based off of a 8×8 grid, unlike a QUBE block that’s a 4×4 grid, here I expanded a block into a 8×8 grid and we’re still able to use the QUBE shapes- another reason why I love the QUBE set!
When making block #1 just GRAB the pieces you need from the already cut shapes, here it’s
A White- 8 of shape #2, 8 of shape #4, 16 of shape #5
B Light Grey- 8 of shape #5
C Dark Grey- 8 of shape #5
D Black- 1 of shape #1, 4 of shape #2, 4 of shape #4
E Light Blue/Turquoise- 8 of shape #5
F Dark Blue- 8 of shape #3
I probably won’t be showing all these each week as I don’t want to give away the whole pattern 😉
And here’s my mini pieces
Whenever I make complicated blocks, I don’t necessarily follow the pattern, but sew the simple steps first and as many as possible, so here I sewed all the HSTs and flying geese as possible.
Then the rest of the steps are not hard 🙂
And then the block is quickly DONE!
with the 4in QUBE set, this block is 8in Fin (so 8 1/2″ to this point)
The blocks look really cute next to each other!
I also have a “testers” group where I send my patterns to be tested before I release them- mostly also to check for typos or if I did the math wrong! Here Char made the middle block already, it’s so much fun to see the different versions of the same pattern!
and speaking of different versions, I have a linkytools thingy below here, if you want to link up your blog post to here, it can even be of just the fabrics you picked, then it’s great inspiration for everyone else to see!
Have fun!!
This looks really good… I have the 10” Qube and looking forward to doing it… thanks for the block…
Thanks! You can use any QUBE set you have, the yardage for each set is shown at the bottom of the last page.
