This all started with a sketch in EQ!
I liked the look of that but then also looked at what scraps and yardage I had and ended up coming up with this!
I think I’ve mentioned before that the 10″ pineapple die from Accuquilt is one of my favorites!
and here it’s playing with the block on-point and then adding a simple star block- made with the 10″ QUBE set, as alternate blocks.
(I know I forgot an extra red log on the sketch, but it was just a guide for me)
I cut out the red for the outer border- then the blue squares and triangles from different blue yardage and then the tan and red pineapple pieces from scraps! I often design quilts around what scrap bins are overflowing!
The star blocks were pretty much made from yardage, just the pineapple blocks were from scraps
The blue corners of the pineapple blocks used some patriotic blues and I figured out that using the same on opposite corners would look better than using them for every other block.
Here’s the quilt top without the border
I added the border strips carefully as everything was on point, so the edges tend to stretch, but if you press it nice and flat and pin the borders to it while on the flat table, it works out well.
It measures 34″ x 48″ and I quilted it with a design called pearls and swirls from intelligent quilting
I also recently got an order of solid fabrics from connecting threads and decided to recover my ironing board, it has a huge ugly stain on it and I was tired of looking at it.
It was actually screwed to the rack with tiny L brackets but easy to unscrew and then 2yds of a beige fabric and a stapler and 10 min later, it looked SEW much better!!
Do you make a lot of scrap quilts? How do you plan yours?
What a pretty use of the pineapple block! I tend to make scrappy quilts when I’m doing a QAL. I have EQ8 but haven’t learned all its’ uses yet.
Dear Bea, I have the log cabin die but I haven’t used it yet. Maybe this beautiful quilt will spur me on. Thanks so much for the design. You’re the best. Shelly Gische
P.S. I have seven blocks done on my QAL.
