rainbow four patch long arm quilted

My 2nd Quilt I quilted on my new Juki and QCT (Quilter’s Creative Touch) is this scrappy rainbow four patch (I’ve blogged about the blocks before, they are in Bonnie Hunter’s new string book but I used Accuquilt for most of the block construction)

It measures 36″ x 46″

I started with a pantograph and picked this loopy heart design and did it really BIG!

mistake #1 was that I had the highest stitches per inch, so the stitches are TINY!!

mistake #2 was at some point when I forwarded the quilt, I didn’t line it up right.

The program gives you 3 points for reference when you forward the quilt, and I THOUGHT I lined it up right but I didn’t…. so one row overlaps the previous one, which I actually really like now- should have done it with the whole thing….

But that’s okay, these first few quilts are probably for donations, I’m just having fun and figuring out how to work it….

The panto design otherwise lines up PERFECTLY!!

Here’s the backing, near the bottom you see the overlap, but the rest looks great.

I read a blog post about quilt photography and it suggested 10 different thing, one was a close up folded picture, so I figured I’d try it 🙂

I’m loving the new machine and have lots of tops to practice on! I’m a fast learned and fast worker, so just wait and see… ha ha

  1. You are going to love the automation. It is a real game changer. I agree about the small stitches. I usually do 11 spi, as I think 12 is too small and 10 is too long on my machine. The issue really is that the quilting threads break more easily when the stitches are tiny unless you’re doing microstippling. I have some quilts that were done pre-computer quilting and some of the tinier stitches have broken with all the fort and castle building that the children do with the quilts.

I feel your pain! I am learning the prostitcher and beginning to think I should write my own manual as I go along… I almost have advancing down and I cropped a design today, but some of it is not intuitive. I love computers and really want to understand how to program designs. I did take a class; and it helps.
