Quilting Gallery Blog Hop

It’s BLOG HOP TIME!!

Quilting Gallery is hosting another great blog hop!!

Here’s a little about me and my blog 🙂

I’m Bea (bee-ah- not Bee like the kind that has wings!ha ha)

I’ve been quilting since 2004 when I was pregnant with my daughter who’s now 8.

I have 3 kids, 10yr old son, 8yr old daughter and also a 6m old daughter.

I started long arm quilting in 2009

I’ve won ribbons at local county fairs and quilt shows.

I love to quilt !! every part of quilting: Designing a quilt in EQ7, picking out fabrics, cutting, piecing, quilting and hand sewing the binding on.

I was also published for the first time last summer in McCall’s and have also been in Quilt it Today magazine. Now I also started selling patterns at Connecting Threads!!

I also like to create bi-weekly tutorials for EQ7 users.

Okay enough “bragging” about myself….

If you follow my blog and KNOW me, I’m usually not the bragging type, I just love what I do and can’t stop talking about it and sharing anything quilty related or teach others to quilt.

Here’s a small giveaway from my stash!

An A-Z quilting book that I won from another blog hop and I’m just passing it along 🙂

A charm pack “terrain” by Kate Spain

And a set of AHHHH’s

click here to learn more about those- my latest quilty obsession 🙂

I’ll also throw in this PDF pattern, I’ll email it to the winner!

it’s for sale at connecting threads here

Now my “NEWEST” obsession is machine embroidery!

after getting EQ Stitch from Electric Quilt, I started drooling over a bigger embroidery machine.

And guess what!? hubby is getting me one- he found a nice used industrial 6 needle brother machine, so I/we might turn embroidering into a business, we’ll see 🙂

So here’s what you have to do to win these goodies above!

comment below, giving me ideas what to make/sell/ give away with an embroidery machine.

Followers can leave an extra comment for a 2nd chance to win.

ALSO I’m currently having another giveaway with my quilt along here

AND if any of you have EQ7 I’m hosting a blog hop in April here

I’ll pick a winner Friday the 15th! – not sure of the time so get your comments in by the end of Thursday the 14th

  1. I've actually bought some embroidered blocks on ebay to make into my own projects, like quilts and wall hangings. I like to make my own item…purse or whatever, but don't have an embroidery machine to make the embroidery part. Good luck and thanks for the giveaway!

  10. We need a "Dishes CLEAN: Dishes DIRTY" sign for the dishwasher (and I don't mean me!).That would be a really neat embroidery project.

  19. Kimberly Cassie @ Quilty Doodads

You can market custom services to business and embroider logos on golf shirts, hats, etc. During the peak weather season you could offer to monogram towels, sheets, napkins, etc as gifts for newly-weds. Folks also like to see personalized baby items (onesies, bibs, etc). The possibilities are endless!thanks for the amazing giveaway. I have really enjoyed watching your Ahhs progress. 24. Those AHHHS look awesome 🙂 Embroidery… I always imagined if I had an embroidery machine I'd make really awesome embroidered shirts with my work logo. It's so expensive to get it done by someone else!

  25. Embrodiery on dish towels, totes, baby items, jackets, or hats are some suggestions. Thanks for the giveaway too.

  26. pinsandneedles

I think you could embroider on baby clothes like onesies. Vey cute.

  27. TheStylishHome

I'm reading all the comments with interest. I've had the same question, but never an answer for it 🙂

  28. Shel @ Crafty But Not Creative

The lady I bought from has younger children, and personalizes all sorts of things for families at her school. She also has done work for sporting teams – headbands for girls, sports bags, jackets, etc. I've also done wedding work (for my kids), and my daughters tells me that's a good area to work with. 57. The possibilites are endless… mub rugs, clothing, Christmas gifts, table runners, dish towels….Thanks for the chance to win, I am also a new follower

  58. Wow. Lucky you. You're jumping up to play with the big kids on that machine. LOL Really what to sell is the hard part. What sells in one area, won't be given a second look in another. And what sells really well this year might not a few months later. (I'm speaking along the lines of doing craft shows). I see this very question quite often in the machine embroidery groups I've been a member of since 2003. The next question is always, what should I charge/what do you charge because some are not selling the items that were suggested when they asked what sells well. The best advice I could give, if you are hoping to grow locally at least, is go to craft shows in your area and see what is being offered and what people are buying. AND check the prices too since that will be your next hurdle because many people (just like quilt prices) don't seem to understand that you don't work for free and charge only for materials used forgetting you need to take into account thread, wear and tear on the machine, your energy usage and yea, your time too. And not to mention, the cost at upgrading that software and buying it in the first place. All those items should factor somehow into the pricing, even if only a small amount with each item. I'm sure you know that though. 😉 But it's really a crapshoot as to what you should sell. Mug Rugs in the machine embroidery arena have been hugely popular for about three years now and some are now seeing the sales of those slowing down. The one that that always sells is baby stuff. Baby bibs and matching burp cloths with embroidery with seasonal sayings on them always go really well. You're not going to make a fortune off each one but, finding the right niche and making them super cute so you get lots of repeat business then you can do really well.I'll shut up now though. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do great. Have fun with that new machine.

  59. I think you could do just about anything with a new machine! Patches come to mind!

  60. You can do anything and everything. Mug rugs; quilts; pot holders. I am a avid follower and enjoy my visits. Thank you for joining in the Beat the Winter Blues Blog Hop and giving all of your followers a chance to win.Sandi Timmonssandit1@sbcglobal.netSonora, CA

  70. I have seen machine embroidery used very effectively as the quilt design on alternate blocks in a pieced quilt. To sell or give away, I feel small items are best.
