Remember the Quilt of Valor blog hop I did last year with Island Batik?
I used this 10″ stack and some yardage from Island Batik ad if you click the link you’ll see I was inspired by the 50 states book I’ve had for years but then changed the blocks into Accuquilt friendly blocks
I came up with this layout where some blocks are 12″ and some are 4–6″ blocks together to make them 12″ and with 50 states plus D.C. it fit together well!
I made the blocks one at a time to first make sure I did it right and also to see what fabrics I had left from the 10″ stack
The top was very popular on Facebook in the QUBE group, so I decided to do a Quilt Along (QAL) this year and we have just started- in case you didn’t notice.
Then I figured I better finish the first quilt before the 2nd one gets done too- though that will take months!
Anyways, here it is! It measures 66″ x 78″
With my new Juki and Quilter’s creative touch I found a cool edge to edge pantograph design with stars in it and I made it 14″ tall or around there, so it pretty much took up all the throat space.
I also quilted it in a blue and white variegated thread that’s a regular sewing thread, I think from Connecting threads and it worked GREAT!
The back is also from CT as I ran out of the batiks.
I had also saved some Hobbs batting from the ambassador box from last year and used that for the quilt
I machine stitched down the binding, the binding is made from two different red batiks as I didn’t have enough for all of it, so I alternated the strips, but they are so close in color and print that it’s hard to tell
I’m going to donate this quilt to the local VFW, I already met a few of them and got their contact info, so it’s just a matter of meeting up!
What a stunning quilt! I love the quilting you have done. Perfect fit. I’m sure this quilt will be a family favourite 🙂
thanks! it was fun to make that’s why I’m doing another as a quilt along!
Nice QoV.
