Did you know that Michael Miller Fabrics is hosting a QAL with batiks?
Block 1 is already on MMF’s blog and as ambassadors for them, we all got sent some yummy batiks to make our own quilts too!
It was “hard” to wait until the block directions were released, but I tried to be patient 😉
The blocks with the large star frame finish 16″ and the center 8″ block changes for each block.
MMF provides directions for either rotary cutting OR Accuquilt directions with the 8″ QUBE set, of course I’m doing the QUBE directions!!
With Fabric 1 (Black) I cut out all the pieces for the frame pieces for all 12 blocks at once, so first I cut (6) 5 1/4″ WOF strips and cut out (96) large HSTs with die shape#3, then (6) 5″ WOF strips and cut out (48) large squares with die shape #1
With fabric 5 there’s two different multi colored batiks, I cut (3) 5 1/4″ WOF of each and cut out (48) HSTs with die shape #3
For block #1 it uses a lot of small HSTs with die shape #5 so it’s easy to just cut 3 3/4″ WOF strips and lay on the die and cut out what I needed
I also used die shapes #4 and #6
as always, I sew together as much as possible in one sitting and then get up and press. With Accuquilt pieces I always press the seams OPEN!
quickly the flying geese, the center diamond in a square and large HSTs are done and the large HSTs are turned into large flying geese too.
Then the block went together quickly!
and here’s the completed block done with the outer star points.
It turned out really cute!
Now it’s hard to wait a whole month for the next block!
follow Michael Miller’s blog to make sure you get notified when the next block is out!
This is beautiful! I love batiks too! I have the 9 inch cube and the GO! Big. Can I do this pattern with that?
If you do the blocks would finish 18″ and you’d need more fabric 🙂
Wow. What a stunning block. I love those batiks.
I love this!! Where can I get the fabric??
I guess at your local quilt store, not sure… or online?
