Our trip to Arkansas

Time to show some pictures from Arkansas, as I couldn’t fit them in my Saturday post, so I figured I’d designate a post to it 🙂

We flew out of RDU then to Atlanta then to Little Rock on Tuesday, the day before when I checked in online I noticed that we weren’t sitting together! I don’t remember getting to choose seats when I booked it, so at the airport I went up to the counter and asked if we could sit together and sure enough they swapped our seats and we then got the last row on the plane.

From Atlanta to Little Rock was the same issue, so I tried to talk to the customer service guy but he announced that the plane was full, even before I could ask, so I figured I’d have to BEG someone on the flight instead, as we got two middle seat across from each other, but when we boarded they had swapped one seat so we got window and middle next to each other!

“pixy” got to listen to music or the movie playing too 🙂

My friend Laura picked us up, we waited maybe 2 min total, it was perfect timing!

Then we went to downtown Little Rock and saw a remnant of this rock that was the symbol or the reason why Little Rock was called Little Rock, a big boulder on the Arkansas river, but at some point they had to build a metal train bridge over the river and the rock was in the way, so they blew it up and this is the only remnant left.

we walked up the bridge too

One of the days we went to Petit Jean Mountain and there was a story about a girl from France, engaged to a French Nobleman who was going to explore the Arkansas river and she wanted to come along but couldn’t because she was a girl, so she cut her hair and dressed up as a cabin boy and got on board the ship and it wasn’t until they got to this mountain and she got sick when they found out she was a girl! She was close to dying and made the nobleman promise to bury her on this mountain, which he did and the mountain is named after her.

another part of the mountain had these “turtle” rocks, bumpy rocks that were crackled so they looked like turtle shells!

And another part had a cave with Native Indian Paintings

and a waterfall (there’s actually a person walking down there- it’s very hard to see)

another day we went to a playground, then a splashpad and then the weather turned bad so we went out to lunch instead at “David’s Burger” where the kids got to serve themselves soft serve ice cream after their meal

I showed the shirts we made for me and Anja and when Anja got her unicorn shirt made, JoJo wanted one too so they could be “twinsies”

I took a lot more pictures and we all had a great time! But I’ll keep this short 🙂

  1. Thank you for sharing! It never occurred to me to wonder why it was called Little Rock. You did some amazing things, and I’m sure there was lots more done. I’ve not gotten very far off the interstate when going through that city, so I didn’t realize there was so much to see.
