ORCA top is done and fabrics for 3 dresses or maybe 4

I finally finished the ORCA bay top, well without the top…. I just needed this thing DONE!

I’m still not loving it, I love Bonnie’s sketches and LOVE the final quilt, but I should have stuck with her color choices and not changed it around, mine are too close in tone. lesson learned!

Now that the top is together, it’s not as bad as I thought, I still don’t LOVE it, but it’s done and not too bad. what a pain to sew together though, the pieces that were strip pieces were skewed, others were too small, and I double and triple checked when cutting and sewing. SIGH! oh well….

well here it IS!

when I see it as a small picture like this, it actually looks fun!

take a look at a close up

this was my shirt last night

(isn’t that the perfect shirt to sew in?)

Yesterday my neighbor gave me a new “red” fabric for the Dr seuss quilt I’m making, this is more orangy red and matches so much better.

then we also looked at her old dress patterns and found this cute girl dress pattern and she said she bought the fabrics to go with it, so she gave them to me!( the blue and blue toile looking ones)

PLUS my kids are going to birthday parties the next 2 weekends, one girl saturday who loves tie dye, so I got this fabric at walmart yesterday, and two other girls the next weekend who love horses.

I’ll make these cute twirly dresses, which I’ve made a bunch of before and used to sell on eBay before I started quilting, and with my embroidery machine I’d embroider the girls name on the bodice.

  1. What alot of work on that quilt top. I think you just looked at it too much – I think it is awesome. You did good

  2. Congrats on finishing your Orca Bay top! I've got mine done and just need to figure out how to quilt it.

  3. Wow, your Orca Bay looks stunning, even if you didn't exactly follow her directions! I saved them all and am still considering it although I might go in a different colorway, it will be slightly easier now that I've seen the finished project.
