New look!

I finally got my order from IKEA, after MONTHS of planning and dreaming about cabinets, then deciding what I wanted, if I wanted doors or not, I finally bit the bullet and ordered BESTA cabinets!

BESTÃ… storage combination with doors white/Lappviken/Stubbarp white 47 1/4 " 16 1/2 " 79 1/2 "

a big thing was to make sure I could fit all my Accuquilt dies including the GO BIG dies which are BIG! so this cabinet had 16 1/2″ shelves minus the thickness and if you look at the description the shelves are 14″ deep and the go BIG dies are 14″ x 16″, now this cabinet had 3 doors and open on half, where you could buy another unit with 6 doors but the depth wasn’t the same plus I also liked the legs on these, so I ADDED 3 doors and 3 hinges per set and ordered 3 sets total- it was 81 boxes!

They were supposed to get here Monday between 9-6pm, then later I got a 4hr window of 2-6pm and without fail they came right when dinner was on the table!

During the early afternoon, Bjorn and I empties my current shelves and disassembled them

The room next to mine is a walk in attic, so that’s where we dumped everything!

After dinner we started assembly! Bjorn and I did the cabinets, when it got time to do the doors or some heavy lifting we recruited my husband and Solveig was at a friend’s house most of the day so she helped when she got back.

When I grew up in Denmark, we had IKEA there too and they were known to be total JUNK! so when I moved to the US and IKEA came over here I didn’t understand the hype! Now it IS cheaply made but it’s very clever and light and like a puzzle, we’re impressed with them.

I started playing with where I wanted everything before the doors went on.

I quickly decided that the Accuquilt dies HAVE to be on the bottom, they are just SO heavy, I’d hate for the shelves to bow, not that they look pretty sturdy.

A bit into the organizing I realized I SHOULD line up shelves to how the doors will be attached, then at least the shelf in between can be different. I do love the look of this, but there’s a lot of “wasted” space, but it’s PRETTY!

I was Sonja’s job to carry all the cardboard away-outside to burn and then later I had her empty my thread rack with long arm threads and put on shelves.

This cabinet is right next to my work table, there’s not a lot of space to move around if the doors are open, so I decided to have rarely used items like fiber fill and insulbright and batting pieces since the long arm is behind me, then also interfacing, which can never look nice and organized, threads and tools for the long arm, pillow shapes and tools and books I need, plus quilts waiting to be quilted. I also stuck my dry erase board on the side of this cabinet.

The two cabinets facing me now have all my dies, small table runners on one shelf (I had wanted to put books there, but I’ll leave in the other room) then cubbies and boxes with misc things on the top shelf too.

and since there was a tiny shelf above the GO big dies, I put precuts like 10″ square packs there

The right cabinet has all my scrap fabric bins, then yardage which is still sorted like this: 0-1/2yd, 1/2-1yd, 1-2yds, 2yds and above.

and then a shelf for FQs and other precuts and more dies! and some rulers-which I rarely use.

And then I stacked my quilts back on top of all the cabinets!

Here’s a sweep across my studio now standing near the door.

Something else NEW in our house is a new DOG!!

This is CHEWY! She’s will be a year old on July 4th. She’s a German Shepherd and a very good, obedient, very sweet dog.

We already love her!

But our two cats DO NOT!! there’s been a few interactions already between them that didn’t go well, I know it’ll take time 😉

    1. ha ha thanks! I could my dies better before but the shelves were cluttered and the dust! so it’s good to have them behind closed doors.

  1. Oh lucky you with those gorgeous white cabinets all organized! A little envious here;)
