Since I got the old kitchen cabinets upstairs and cleaned up the counter AND filled the cabinets with fur and soft non-cotton fabrics
I decided I needed a new ironing board cover, the last one had actually ripped so I had ripped it more and kept the blue which was probably 3 covers ago!
I got out my bolts of fabric and had the girls help decide what fabric I should use: solid turquoise, solid pale grey, turquoise dots or yellow bees!?
The last few times I recovered the board, I just re-stapled more fabric on top, but this time I had ripped two or 3 layers so I figured I’d start over! so I got out the plyers and a handy little Spackle type of tool hubby was using downstairs (and I snagged it for a few hours) and I pulled out tons of old staples!
It looks like 5 layers of fabric and batting under the last layer, I decided to keep that last (first?) layer as it was nicely stapled and I removed the rest
My girls picked the bee fabric and it seemed like 2yds of it was good and I had another chunk of batting that would fit too, so I laid it all flat on our wooden floor and laid the old board on top and started stapling!
and made “somewhat” nice envelope tucks at the ends and cut off the extra fabric too from the corners and the sides
Because the board is only resting on top of these wire shelves, hubby had screwed some small L brackets onto the bottom of the board, which I screwed back in, then plopped the board on top of the shelf and then I used a bit of scrap fabric and tied the board to the shelf
TADA! it’s actually pretty easy and if it gets too dirty or I just want to change it again, it’s easy to do!
This is what that side of the studio looks like now
and the cabinets are filled
I don’t have my embroidery machine set up anymore because it won’t fit under the cabinets and the GO BIG has to be where it is, but I think I might get a bottom cabinet and stick it in our extra walk-in attic that’s next to my room here where I store my bolts of fabric and the kids crafts and whatever else….. and a bonus would be that I can close the door and not hear it as loud!
Your Studio looks great! My hubby offered to put kitchen cabinets in mine and I opted for movable floor cabinet which was a huge mistake. By the way, I love you Donald picture!
Your studio is amazing!
thanks, I love it!
Looks great, Bea! I have Ikea cabinets, bases and wall, in mine and love them. I just need more space as they are all full! LOL
Looks wonderful and tidy. The girls picked well, and your photos show how easy it really would be. My ironing board is tippy, and I don’t like it, but can’t do what you did here. When I have a real studio again, I will try this out.
