It’s finally my turn for the blog hop!
Have you enjoyed the eye candy with awesome batiks so far?
My interpretation of New Beginning was to take my FIRST published quilt and turn it into a pattern!
(Picture from McCall’s)
It’s a HOOTIE was published in Sept/Oct 2012 of McCall’s quilting magazine and I made it in bright batiks back then.
I have it listed on craftsy here
This time I wanted to try it in these yummy Surf and Sand’s blue and green colors!!
Following the directions I made the owl blocks first
The owl blocks are just adorable!
Then I made the surrounding blocks
And placement of the owl blocks is very important so I used my design wall for that!
Here it is all quilted and done!
and close ups of the quilting.
I did curves on the blocks and left the owls alone
feathers on the outer border and a ribbon swirl on the inner border
I used leftover yardage for the backing and also added a hanging sleeve
I embroidered the label as always
Here’s a picture of the back to see the quilting better

So beautiful, and different from the first one. I'm always amazed to see how different quilts can be with other fabrics. Sometimes you can't even see that it's the same quilt.
Bea, the batik really gives the project a modern twist. I love it
Just adorable!
Love this quilt in these new colors. Also love your quilt label.

It's always nice to see how a quilt looks in a different color scheme. And this new colorway is great.
How cute Bea! I have always, always loved your It's a Hootie quilt! It is perfect in these batiks. Great pattern!
Cute owl quilts.
Oh wow. This is why I love playing with color and fabrics when I quilt. This version is softer and more soothing in the soft green and blue. Like twilight at the beach.reillyr2(at)hotmail(dot)com

Those owls are just too cute. Love the fabrics you used.

I've always loved that owl quilt and the new version is pretty though I will admit I'm partial to the bright one.

Love the owls – what a cute pattern. Beautiful fabric too.
Cute owls! Love the quilt.
It's exciting how you can totally change a quilt by using different fabrics!
Isn't it amazing what a difference fabric choices make in the personality of a quilt? Your first quilt was fun and your second quilt is classically whimsical. Thanks for sharing.
Really cute! What a HOOT!
