Modern Batik Challenge with Island Batik

Modern Batik Challenge

I finished a project with Island Batik as my take on a modern theme.

I used scraps of Sea salt batiks from Island Batik, then the 8” Accuquilt QUBE.

I used the diamond shape

and the large triangle (used some other blue batik scraps)

I cut out 16 each of green and yellow diamonds and arranged them like this

Then sewed them together but paid attention that it overlapped 1/4”.

A trick is to start with the needle DOWN and then when the pieces are overlaid, they match up perfectly with the needle!

Here I made the 4 x 3 matching sets

Then I added the blue large triangles and sewed the large segments together like triangles, now the top is 16 1/2”

I then quilted it onto some other scrap batik with batting in between and turned it into a pillow

The back of the pillow I folded over 1/4” edges twice and the pieces are about 3-4” bigger and overlapped when I sewed it together, then turned right side out.

Island Batik fabrics are just great to work with to create awesome results!

  1. a teat block I still think the sea salt batiks are the best batiks ever still hoping someone in the UK will start to stock them, maybe I need a trip to the USA!! Shame do not ven have a passport never mind the money for the trip.

  2. Great pillow Bea! I really like how it turned out and the quilting adds a lot of interest to it!
