I recently finished this cute bag for MYSELF!
It’s made with a pattern called Itty Bitty Bag by Karen West, it measures 9″ x 6″ x 3″ and I had probably bought this main fabric BEFORE Covid with intention of making a bag, but kept procrastinating until my bag from Denmark started falling apart.
It’s not HARD to make, but unlike quilting and sewing quilt blocks, you have to pay attention to EVERY SINGLE STEP! It’s a process.
I really LOVE how it turned out.
I really don’t like BIG Mary Poppins bags where you have to go dig at the bottom of your bag for several minutes before finding what you’re looking for, so I thought this bag would be ideal!
I added two snaps to the front and back pockets and one pocket fits my car keys which I don’t need to pull out every time, I just need to have it ON me, so this works.
It had an interesting method for sewing the zipper on.
I chose to hand sew the lining to the inside as I didn’t like the method in the pattern and good thing too, because now one of the outside pockets had separated from the straps so SOMEONE needs to go in and fix that, but SOMEONE doesn’t want to bother with it…..LOL
The other day I noticed this unfortunate fabric placement, it almost spells out a bad word.
It was still a fun process and I worked on it between projects so it wasn’t that bad to have to pause and think about each step.
Have you ever made a purse? with a zipper? I’m always on the look our for fun cute purse patterns, I don’t think I would ever write a pattern for one.
That is so cute – I love it! I’ve developed a great and quick way to make a cosmetic bag with a zipper and it’s easily adaptable to make a purse. I can make a zipper bag up in about 30 minutes – and layer cake square are the perfect size for the bag. A handle can be out of webbing or a contrast fabric. They are really fun to sew and to give as gifts. Pockets can be added in the lining and on the outside – of course, more detail means longer sewing time but the results are worth it. Using contrasting fabrics makes the bag cute and interesting.
I have sewn bags. I mostly prefer tote bags because, I agree, sometimes there are way too many steps in purse patterns. I like the tote bags because I can throw items in it and throw the tote in my car. This came out very cute and it is useful for how you want it to be. You are better at “winging” some of the parts that I am. Plus, I would not want to go back and fix something that is coming apart either. Have fun with your new purse!
