It’s time for Mid-month potholders again!
Are you getting tired of them?
as you can see from the title, I was thinking FALL!
I was actually kind of clueless as to what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted to use the fall medley die
Then I also used the 8” QUBE set, #5 from the QUBE set and #10 from the companion corners set
I didn’t really pay attention to the fabric amount, but had this sort of plaid brown FQ that I really wanted to use and that dictated how much I could cut out.
with that I cut out (8) of #10 signature blocks
Then in brown I cut out (16) of #5 triangles
Then sewed then together, easy peasy!
and then together into a big “X” like this for both blocks
Then I prepped some scraps of brown and added steam a seam 2 onto the back and got out the fall medley die
and cut out 2 leaves, I did right sides together so they are opposite
I then removed the paper and pressed with a hot iron
and appliqued around each leaf in a dark brown thread
I cut out (2) 8 1/2” brown squares for the back and I also prepped hanging tags (I’ve shown these before)
Then I cut out 2 scraps of batting and 2 pieces of insulbright to fit the blocks
I basted the hanging tags at the top of the blocks
Then with layers of insulbright, batting, the block right side up and brown on top (right side down, but it doesn’t matter on a solid fabric) I pinned everything together and I like to double pin where I’ll have an opening
and with a walking foot I stitched all the way around, I actually do more of a 3/8” seam, so there’s room to turn the opening seam, then trim away the batting and trim the corners
Turn it right side out and fold in the opening and pin well
then top stitch slowly all the way around! and VOILA!!
try it out!!
Super cute potholders, so perfect for Fall. #CreativeGoodness
I made those string blocks (the old fashioned way, since I don't have an accucut) for my family reunion blocks.
