This month’s potholders are a set of PIXEL potholders!
It’s a “section” of this quilt that I made years ago for McCall’s and it’s based on a sweater I have.
I sketched it out as a 7×7 “quilt” and I liked my 2nd choice the best
since it’s a 7×7 potholder, Accuquilt has an awesome die for that! it’s a 1 1/2” square die with 9 squares on the die, so super easy!
I picked out 4 FQs (you could use less but that’s a start)
I picked a dark blue, a lighter blue, a reddish and a white which has snowflakes on it
Then I started cutting!
40 red
20 light blue (medium blue in my case)
6 dark blue
32 white
then following the chart above I sewed together as many as I could 2 at a time
and more (3 or 4)
then columns of 7 like this
and soon enough the potholder tops are done like this!
I cut out 2 of 7 1/2” squares in blue and also 2 1/2” strips and turned them into hanging tags.
Then I laid the tops on top of insulbright and quilted it, and the back pieces on top of batting and quilted those too. Then I trimmed both sets.
Laid right sides together and with tags in between I stitched around leaving an opening then turned right sides out and top stitched carefully around the perimeter.
Fun and easy! and once you start thinking in pixels it opens up so many possibilities!
try them out!
Your potholders are so beautiful! Thank you for sharing how you made them! So pretty! Enjoy your holidays! 🙂 🙂
Fun, pixelated pot holders! I haven't tried this yet, but looks like fun!!
