March Mini Madness with Island Batik

As you saw, I’ve been working on some mini quilts with Island Batik batiks

Here’s a mini quilt that’s 15 x 15, it ended up being in Christmas color

using their holiday happenings collection and a red blender I already had on hand from them

I quilted in the ditch with a brown thread from superior threads

I used a brown sea salt FQ for the back

I also made a mug rug using the sea salt collection and then I tried my new binding foot, I forgot that 2 1/2” strips are much wider when you iron them like bias binding, but it still worked

I need lots of practice with my corners still but I’m still learning and it does the sides beautifully and all at the same time!

so it’s not perfect, but you can’t win them all and I was just playing around Winking smile

Then I decided to make a mini mini block that’s 3” using purple batiks also from the sea salt collection

I had these papers that were given to me by a neighbor and I figured I’d try one Smile

I turned the block into a small pincushion and filled it with crushed walnut shells

I then did a block that was bigger, here it’s 5” and I used purple batiks from the lavish collection and also scraps from the sea salt collection

but this one I turned into a coaster instead!

I’m sure you can guess that these go with the RSC16 challenge- not that I’ll do these the rest of the months, but it was just fun to make something random in purple Smile

  1. I do love that Holiday Happenings collections. It works well year round! Your mini is just so darn cute! Fun time playing with your little mug rugs too. No better way to learn a new tool or practice a new block!

  2. I like all the projects, but I really love the black/red/gray project you featured first.. Awesome as a pawsome :)… hehe

  3. How cute are all these minis?! You really went for it. I *have* to get my binding foot out and try it. You are ahead of me in that department!
