Look, look, look

I am so excited to show you this!

I have a very nice design wall and then some years ago I bought a white brick backdrop and then tripod lights for it and each time I had to take a picture for my quilt patterns, I had to pin the backdrop to the edge of the design wall then the quilt on top of that, I had wished for some sort of “curtain” type of thing instead but knew they were pricey, but then we found THIS on amazon! It’s a single roll wall mount with a pull “chain” – the chain is plastic but it works the same way. Now my backdrop is just thin canvas I fold up so it’s not on a roll, so we had to hit the hardware store and get a metal pipe and hubby cut it to size.

(our spacing between studs once the brackets were mounted was 81″)

I taped the canvas to the rod and I don’t have a weight or a sleeve at the bottom yet, that will help hold it taut and not fold when I roll it up but so far it’s AWESOME!! all for less than $100!!

design wall

I still pin the quilt to the canvas but the design wall behind it has a wooden frame, and actually a canvas under the batting, as it was a projector screen a long time ago, so when I try to pin a quilt, I stay up near the top where the wood is because the canvas underneath can hold it better and it won’t sag. Usually I have 2 tripod lights out too, I just did one light this time.

And here’s the quilt!

It’s a mini Ohio Star quilt

It’s made with the Serendipity QUBE set from Accuquilt and the Ohio star blocks finish at 5″ they are TINY!! but so fun and cute!!

I used this FQ bundle on the left and calculated that I could get 7 blocks out of each if I cut really carefully!

and this is what it looked like after a gazillion of these were cut! You can see my notes about how to cut the FQ.

Here’s a closeup of the quilting, the design is called “Majolica” and I quilted it really big!

Here’s the back in grey and you can see the quilting better.

I’m so excited about this new addition to my studio and I have a gopro coming too that we’ll attach to my long arm so I can do more videos! Wait and see 🙂
