Log Cabin Quilt done

When I started my new Project list for 2019, I was also looking at old bins to find projects I might have missed and this log cabin top was in a bin and I found an old blog post about the blocks here, I know that it was leftover logs from the log cabin quilt I made for Annie’s and then I added solid black to it and I guess I had planned on maybe adding a border, but never did and that’s why it ended up in a bin, but when I got it out, I saw that it was 60×72” already so that’s plenty big and enough for a good lap quilt, so I decided to just finish it!

Of course the logs were cut out with the log cabin die from Accuquilt, which makes is SUPER easy! and even though the log cabin die is 24” long when you cut yardage with it, you DON’T fold it in half but just cut one “set” at a time- of course with 6-8 layers, then flip that fabric over and it fits perfectly! I’ve blogged about that here

I quilted a pointy swirl in grey all over the quilt which went quickly!

The backing is made from odd leftover yardage, those larger scraps that are still the WOF but maybe not that wide or some “ugly” ones, I tried to stick with teal/light blue this time

and the binding is all scrappy!

I love scrappy bindings, don’t you?

  1. I have now read two blog posts about finishing up older projects. Perhaps I should pull out some of mine and finish them. Ha ha.

Log cabin is my favorite block but have never tried Black where I usually use neutrals. It is stunning! Can’t wait to try it!! Thanks for sharing.
