Kona Blog hop and giveaway

Time to Wake up with Kona!

I hope I didn’t mis-interpret this theme…

Anyways, I was looking thru my stash and found some leftover scraps of Kona Solids from when I did the Baja Sunset quilt for McCall’s last year

Baha-Sunset flat 600px

You may have seen my posts before about these adorable purse pin cushions!

They are made in the hoop on my embroidery machine (except to sew the pieces together at the end) but the appliqued main part of the purse and sides and flap are in the hoop, it’s a LOT of fun!

Here’s the pattern for sale at embroidershoppe

Here’s the one I made for this hop! TADA!!

2014-01-06 005

and front and back pics

I stuffed it with crushed walnut shells, so it’s quite heavy but stands great on it’s own.

Would you like to have this pincushion???

AND a charm pack bundle from Timeless Treasures

(sorry, it’s not KONA but the closest thing I had to solids and it was donated my TT fabrics for me to give away any time, the pack is ADORABLE!)

I love your little purses – I have probably 20 pincushions now and my favorite is a wonderful Kitty that I can't bare to put pins in.

  2. Kristen King

I'm looking at six pincushions right now and I know have at least twice that many more. 🙂 Lovely job on your project!

  3. That is the cutest pincushion! I probably have at least 30 in my collection – a shelf in a corner cabinet. One of my secret Santa people this year sent me two that I love, but one in particular looks like a woman's hat from the 1800s, embellished with sparklies! Thanks for the giveaway!dezertsuz at gmail

  4. Your pincushion is sew cute. A pincushion with handle … what a great idea. Is "too many to count" an acceptable answer for how many pincushions I have? How about "always room for one more" … 😉 I have them for use in different places in my house so there is always one handy. I use one for awhile and then another one calls my name and I use that one awhile. Thanks for sharing … 🙂 Pat

  5. Colors are nice and really POP!! I'm a pincushion collector…never can have too many pincushionsGmama Jane

  10. Hi Bea! Your pincushion is adorable. It is hard to see just how small it is without a reference point. I only have two pin cushions. One I usually leave on my wrist and one I made for a Moda Bake Shop pattern just last fall. I don't except any prizes since I live in Germany! Keep up the good work! Enjoy the Carolina Blue Sky! I miss it terribly! 😉

  11. I love your sweet little purse pin cushion. How clever. My most used pin cushion is my magnetic one I have had for over 20 years. I have several others I made for a blog hop last year, the favorite of those is my tiny kitchen aid mixer in orange. Thank you so much for showing your talents here today.

  18. My favorite pincushion is one of the few I've made and is shaped like a flower. Not nearly as cute as yours or as others I've seen online. I don't make a lot of little things like that because I find them fiddly and sometimes frustrating. Thanks for the chance to own a really cute one!

  19. Soooo cute!! I only have four pincushions but me fav is the one that attaches to a scap/trash sack.

  22. I have about 8 pincushions that I can count without taking the sewing area apart. My favorite is a simple one that is made from Alpaca wool. It was given to me by the person who raised the alpacas, dyed the wool and made the pincushion. How excellent is that?

  23. Marla's Crafts

Pin cushions are new to me. I just made a few last year and not sure why I never used one before. I made them for my friends the year before for Christmas and then make two different patterns after that. I love my big owl one that I did for a bird hop. Thanks for showing your wonderful work and having a great give away.

My second one is a crocheted pincushion my grandmother made my mom which she passed on to me. It is stuffed with cotton. My third pincushion is the standard tomato with the attached strawberry. I have never had one or seen one filled with crushed walnuts, although I have heard about them.

  80. I just love the little purses you have been making. Where is that adorable daughter of yours with her purse collection? She always looks like she's having a blast collecting them from you. I am boring in my sewing room. I only have one pincushion and that one I don't even like. LOL

  81. OMGosh…I think I have at least 15 pincushions….they are displayed all over the house….I think my favorite is the one my son in law brought me back from Japan…..I didn't even ask for it he just thought I would like it…..what a great giveaway….thanks

  84. I have been looking at your little purses for some time, and would love to make one. I have one of the very common place tomatoes, and one that is a treasure, given to me by my mother. I must ask her about the origins of this piece while I still have the chance, as my mother will be 90 next month!

  85. I have about a dozen pin cushions, and some I have made, some have been gifted to me, but my favorite is a simple square with floral fabric, tied like a package with a ribbon, and button in the center where the bow would be. It's not too big, and the pins go in it like butter!

  94. The quilt is beautiful. I think you nailed the intent of the hop. The pincushions are adorable. I can only think of two pin cushions that I have. I've had it since I was a preteen when my great aunt outfitted a sewing basket for me, so I've had it fifty years. And, I received the other one as a thank you when with my first order from an online quilt shop. I love pin cushions and would even like to try by hand at making a couple. Thank you for participating and the beautiful work. Also, you are very generous with your giveaway – thanks!

  111. I have three pincushions. I love the smallest one a friend gave me for Christmas a few years ago.

  116. I have three pin cushions. My favorite is an animal holding a pot of flowers ( the pins). Thanks for the chance to win.

  118. I only have two. 🙁 But my favorite is one that my 8 y.o. niece made me for Christmas one year.

  119. For years I used a magnetic pin holder. Then a DIL gave me a thread catcher with pin cushion. Then I started piecing and quilting and now I don't see a pincushion I don't like. But I only have 5 or 6. With my grand daughters sewing more, they seem to walk off. I'm also losing pins! Thanks.

  120. Love ,love, love your pin cushion! I use the old tomato and strawberry, lol. :)craftyccain@gmail.com

  121. I have 3 pin cushions. 2 plain one and a teacup one I made myself. Id love to add another. Thanks

  128. Hi bea, Sorry i am late visiting. I love your purse pin cushion. Very cute!xo jan

  129. Your pin cushion is adorable! I have only 2 pincushions and one of them I did make. It is a little embroidered pillow with tubing and lace sewn into the edge. It also has a fabric tape measure sewn into the seam with a little pair of folding scissors attached by a loop at the end of the tape. I love this pin cushion because I can loop it around my neck and keep everything handy when I am doing hand sewing.

  130. Lynne Tilley

I have 3-4 pin cushions, but my favorite is my very first one, a wrist pincushion I started with in junior high home-ec. I had to replace the cloth on it once, it's at least 40 years old. But it still clips to my arm and I love it. I remember in junior hi I'd leave home-ec with it still on my arm and get teased about my funny "bracelet".

  131. HELLO, I have several pin cushions I've made+some were gifts. My favorite is the red strawberry shaped one!Thank you for sharing!cobaltt16@yahoo.com

  132. Love your projects! Purses are waaaay cool!! Great job!!Must confess…I don't have a single pincushion!! 🙁 Sad I know… Keep my pins in a lil' tin shaped like a Heart…have had (& used) for years…before quilting bug bit me! lol
