For June’s project with Michael Miller fabrics, I got lucky, as I got these fabrics from them for a secret project for Accuquilt before Covid hit and everything shut down.
It’s a UNICORN quilt!
I don’t have a picture of the beautiful fabric collection called Magic! by Michael Miller but you can look at the link and see and then look at your LQS for it, it’s really lovely with gold specks in it!
To start off I used the horse cut out from Accuquilt’s Western Medley die
I but out 4 horses in an off white solid from cotton couture by MMF
Then I prepared a white square and got this cute UNICORN embroidery file from the Accuquilt site too
and stitched it out in pinks and gold and yellow threads
When I cut the fabrics I made sure the prints faced the right way up
Look how cute the unicorn looks in a block
Next was a heart and bow tie die
I also machine embroidered those
(sorry for the bad lighting) but here’s the top so far
and with a cute striped outer border and the hearts in the corners!
This time I wanted to do some custom quilting and came up with this petal feather design for the border (I’m pretty sure it was in QCT)
and I did mini versions on the pink borders in the blocks
I also did a custom design on the star blocks
The quilt measures 38″ x 38″
It was so much fun to make something with these fabrics!
I showed before that I made this mini quilt and my daughter took it for her dolls and stuffed animals
I had some of the main unicorn print leftover and used some other pink and white and the Accuquilt snowball die and 2″ finished square die (#2 in the 8″ QUBE set) to make 9 patch blocks
and I turned it into a little baby quilt
I found some flannel on a random shelf in another room and used it for the backing. No idea how old it is or who made it.
With this Pandemic I started making masks and quickly my stash of fabrics got really low, but some of you have realized that it’s because I also keep my normal piles pretty low, once I buy fabrics for a project, I often keep the leftovers together and make something out of it until my scraps are so small that they go in my scrap bins, so as you can see here, whatever yardage I asked for I was able to make 3 projects! Of course often when I request fabrics for a project for Accuquilt or my own quilt designs, I order/ask for the next closest yardage usually or 1/2yd measurements, so the most I’d have leftover is 1/2yd. I do sometimes add stuff to my cart JUST BECAUSE, but only if I really love it or the sale is too good to pass by, but most often I have a plan for the fabrics I buy 😉
Lovely!!!
I really like how you made unicorns out of horses! Brillant!
Those unicorns are adorable.
Adorable. What did that unicorn quilt measure? The other is cute too
The Unicorn quilt is so pretty. It made me think of a Carousel.
