I’ve been busy

I’ve been busy long arm quilting and adding binding to lots of quilts ever since my long arm got fixed!

I’ve taken pictures and edited all those too and now I need to create posts or patterns for these!

Here’s the first one!

In early November I started cutting out pieces for a new HUG LIFE in pink fabrics.

Of course I used my QUBE set– but the pattern provides rotary cutting directions too, as always!

Here I used the 6″ QUBE instead of the 8″ QUBE

Because the BIRD print was directional, I made sure to have all those pieces face right side up on the blocks.

Here’s the top all done, I actually like this a whole lot better than the cover photo, maybe I should change it??

The top is 34″ x 42″

When I started long arm quilting it, a few weeks ago, it turned into a quilt from hell! the tension on the back was all wrong- something that’s been getting worse and worse over time, I thought I got it better and continued until it was done, then looked at the back and it was horrible, so I had to SKIN it!!

Skinning a quilt is a slow tedious process, you have to use an X-acto knife, then lift up the quilt and cut the threads between the batting and the backing, angling the blade a little bit up toward the batting- because batting can take a little stab and nobody will know, but the backing would get a hole and you don’t want to be near the top at all!

This took me about a week because I had to take a lot of breaks. Then finally the Fix-it guy came and got it all up and working, the culprit was probably my top tension assembly and he got it so super tight, it didn’t see right to me, but he said over time the top spring gets loose so I took it off and fixed it by stretching it more so that when it got put together it had more resistance. He did other stuff too.

I put the backing and batting in the dryer to see if it would get the lint off, but it didn’t help much, so as I loaded the quilt I got off most of it as the machine went along, the stitches are SO much better!!

Here it is all done! I changed the quilt design to be hearts instead of the design I had before- I don’t remember now.

You can still see lint on the top, so I’ll probably throw it in the wash now.

For the backing I used the rest of the pink bird fabric from the pink FQ club, I think I have less than half a yard left of that now. And I used the pink plaid for the binding.
