well, I’m going to wait a little to write that so it won’t show up on the blogger preview thing. ha ha
since I finished the McCall’s quilt top and backing and binding, I used scraps to make another set of owl pot holders.
and here’s the blue table runner on our dining room table, out table is pretty large and this runner is HUGE..
I also got another wonky house block in the mail, this block is TOO cute
it even has a mailbox with my house number on it and a birdie on it, my mailbox has a spider living in it, but that wouldn’t be very cute, would it?

Okay, so we have the U/S yesterday and it’s a GIRL!!
I had a feeling about that since conception- long story…
my son started crying he wanted a little brother, then my husband told him that out daughter would be helping with the diapers because she’s the big sister now, so that got him in a better mood.
Okay, now I need your help, remember I won this awesome KIT as a door prize at a quilt show I went to in november? I had wanted to wait to make it, so IF it was a girl, I’d make this for her room.
Now I’ve opened it up and it’s gorgeous batiks, BUT it’s all strips except the border fabrics, SO should I wash this? or just the larger pieces? I’m afraid it would bleed if I don’t, but also afraid of the fraying.
I ALWAYS wash my fabrics, except jelly rolls and charms of course.
what do you think?
When we found I was expecting a boy during the ultrasound, my daughter was adamant the tecnhician was wrong, it had to be a girl!
Since the material is cut in strips, I would probably treat it like a jelly roll fabric, ie not washing it. It doessn't look like most of the fabric will bleed, but your other option is to just swirl it in the bathtub instead of the washing machine. Really like the fabric for this quilt. I wouldn't wash any of them since some of them are in strips. Try a dye magnet in the wash when the quilt is all done. Congrats with the news that it's a girl.
The owl potholders are adorable. Is there a pattern somewhere that I can get for those?
Yay, a baby girl! I love the quilt you are going to make. I wouldn't prewash the fabrics. I have had amazing success with color catcher sheets. I will never wash another quilt without them.

I don't prewash, even with batiks. I've thrown in a couple of color catchers with my batik quilts.
Congrats on finding out you'll have a girl!! Cute little owls too. I wash most of my fabrics other than charms and jelly rolls. I also have lots of batiks and I only had one red that really bleed but it was a cheaper fabric. I think if you are careful washing your quilt afterwards you should be okay to wait. I did have one batik strip that bleed but it was my fault. It is a dish rug I made with a white towel on the back and when I did the laundry I didn't get the load into the dryer very fast. I think sitting wet made it bleed.
Congrats on the little girl. I never wash my batiks before I use them. If you are afraid of them running, use the Tide color wAsh sheets. They work great. I use them all the time when I wash my quilts the first time.
Congrats!! How exciting…As for the fabrics.. I would not Wash them.. I use the Color Catchers from Shout..THEY WORK GREAT! I usually use 2 when it's Red or Purple. I've only had to use them a couple of times, but the one time I didn't.. I was devastated…. Good luck!
No, don't wash it!! LOL. I actually had a quilt with some red batiks in it, backed in a mostly white fabric, that bled through like crazy when i washed it (newbie mistake). BUT…Cindy from Spin the Bobbin told me to buy a pack of those color grabber laundry sheets and try that. I thought it was a lost cause since I had dried it in the dryer well after the first wasy (my mom put it in for me, that's why the bleeding wasn't noticed) …I had wanted that nice crinkly look. But I put 3 color grabber sheets in with my quilt, and rewashed it. It took ALL OF THE BLEEDING OUT!!! Can you believe it? So if it could get it out after the fact, after even having been dried, then I'm sure 2 or 3 of them in your first wash will take care of everything without a hassle. Those things are stinkin' magic 😀
