Last week I got a shipment of Batiks from Island Batik as they picked me to be an ambassador for them for another year! yay!!
Ohhh the goodies 🙂
and some strips for giving away later 🙂
So that got me thinking of a UFO I had ALMOST finished but neglected to actually finish it.
I had made the panels for the jacket pieces
I found that I had already traced the size onto Swedish tracing paper, so it was EASY to cut out the pieces.
I didn’t have large enough scraps for pockets so I cut them from left over pieces after I trimmed the fabric panels.
Here’s the jacket with lining fabric but without buttons
And the back
(the sleeves are not crooked, it’s just the picture)
Then the trouble started!
I hadn’t made button holes in a long time, but I found the button hole foot
and sewed on scraps of the lining fabric, but it wasn’t right, I did maybe 20 samples and got the same result!
I put it aside and waiting until the next day, then I tried the same foot on my backup (cheap Singer machine) and DING DING! we had a winner!! that was it…..
So I did the button holes and buttons on the jacket- a LOT!
I got my son to take a picture of me 😉
of course the first one I’m telling him what to do and he clicked too soon.
It’s a great fit actually and I didn’t line it with batting, it’s just the front and lining fabrics sewn together and turned inside out.
(forgot to button a button in the middle)
I’m not going to keep this jacket though, I’ll send it to my mom in Denmark (she’s about the same size as me) and with it one of our old laptops, as she has a desktop now that’s really old and doesn’t have sound, so it’s hard to skype her, instead I skype her phone, so hopefully customs won’t give them a hard time!
I love the blues!!! And of course you know I love batiks!! Guess I need to try island batiks!!!
Bea I love it!! You did an awesome job. I have a couple of Batik jackets and love wearing them, I get tons of compliments on them! You'll have to make one for yourself now.
Your mom is going to love it. I really like the pieced pieces and the colors.
Beautiful jacket Bea and your mom will love it! The batiks are perfect for it!
Lovely fabrics, beautiful jacket, which I'm sure your mother will love. I think she'll like your old laptop and ability to skype with you in larger viewing too!QuiltShopGalwww.quiltshopgal.com
