Island Batik ambassador box reveal and mini quilt

When I got my 2019 Island Batik ambassador box, we were all told to hold off doing reveal posts and videos until after the January Blog hop was done!

How can you wait a month?? well….. I couldn’t I did wait a few days for the Accuquilt box to come too and then I started filming a video of me unboxing everything.

Have a look!

I also filmed a bit of my studio/ craft room

Here’s a picture of the goodies

Lots of batiks and batting and then I got to pick what Accuquilt dies I’d get

and here’s a few Aurifil threads too.

Now onto my mini quilt, which is the theme for February!

I was fortunate that I worked on this in January while PATIENTLY waiting for the Island Batik box!

So I used last year’s fabrics.

With the theme of being MINI, I looked in EQ and printed a “few” different pages of foundation blocks, then I posted it in the Island Batik FB ambassador group and several commented about the houses, so then I decided on 3″ bird houses and a 2″ bird in the middle

Then I got out my scraps of last year’s batiks and decided on what colors to go where 😉

There is a cute bird fabric where I tried to fussy cut the bird as part of the foundation piecing, so it’s peeking out of the door of the bird house!

And here’s the 2″ bird with a 1″ CUT border around it so it finishes at 3″

So here’s one bird and 4 of the red roof bird houses and 2 each of the other two

Then I sewed them together, I originally sewed it together a bit differently but because the blocks are not the same the roofs of the bird houses just looked too odd, this one was much better.

then I found a scrap of batting and more of the blue droplet fabric and I quilted it in an off white aurifil thread, the quilt measures 9″ finished.

Then I trimmed the batting and cut the blue backing down to I think 3/4″

I trimmed the corners, then ironed the blue in half and folded it over the top edges

Then I used a spool of blue aurifil thread I had from last year I think and I top stitched the binding down.

I used the 3M sticky double sided tape that I had leftover from Christmas and stuck it on the wall next to my computer, under my shelves of pincushions

Here’s a close up of it!

A fun mini!

  1. What a fabulous mini…..I don't know if I could hold those small pieces. Love all of your fabric

  2. Opening the boxes is so much fun. I loved having a "second Christmas" when my boxes came in. I think the smallest blocks I have made are 3 inches. So I am impressed with your 2 inch block. The bird houses are so much fun.

  3. Whoo hoo…we are off to a great year. Love your video and that little mini, which is just too sweet!

  4. What a fun little quilt and great video. Loved to see all your pincushions.

Cute birdhouses, looking forward to seeing what else this box of goodies inspires.

  6. Super cute mini! I love the bird peeking out of the birdhouse. It looks great under your pincushion shelf!
