I know many of you are excited and curious about the 2020 Quilt Along for the 50 states Quilt of Valor Quilt that I’m hosting!
This is what it will look like! 66″ x 78″
I actually made a sort of scrappy batik version here
though I have tweaked a few things and I am sticking with just 5 colors, but you can totally do scrappy!
It’s actually 51 blocks, so 50 states plus D.C!
Here’s the fabrics you’ll need
2.5yds white (background) I’ll actually order 3yds just to be safe
1.5yds of two different reds and two different blues
and then 1yd for the border
and 3/4yd for binding
I will probably order from Connecting threads this time and I think I will order 3yds white and 2yds of the rest.
Now for the dies needed!
The big blocks are 12″ and the smaller ones are 6″ so you’ll need those QUBE sets
Some blocks are based off of a 3×3 grid unlike the qubes that are based off of a 4×4 grid so that means that you’ll also need the 8″ qube set
plus companion sets for them, mostly the sets with triangle in a square or kite shape which is the “angles” sets, there are a few spots where I used the signature dies too from the “corners” set.
Most of the block components are triangles and squares though, so if you don’t have the QUBE set, I’ll provide rotary cutting too as much as possible, BUT I’m doing this QAL for free and it’s a lot of work, so if you think you might want to invest in more dies and make the is QAL easier, then click thru my links and I get a small commission.
Since it’s 51 blocks, that would be 51 weeks so that’s a whole year! I don’t know if I’ll do it that slowly, I think I’ll wait and see, maybe is a block is super simple I’ll do two in a week.
I do plan on doing them in ABC order, but that’s not how they are in the layout, they are sort of shuffled around.
It should be lots of fun and I’ll show little facts about each state too!
Very cool!
Do not have a cutting cube. Will I be able to still sew along?
already finished mine , ready to give on Nov. 11th
Oh this looks FUN!I'm on a FORCED sewing / quilting "break"…No Sewing! Trust me, this was not my choice!Hope to make this when this sewing "Break" is over!
I’m just now reading about this (yes, I’m way behind on blog reading). This looks like fun. I do hope you use rotary cutting too, since I don’t have an Accucutter.
I will! thought Accuquilt dies are SEW much faster 🙂 but you can still join 🙂
