If you haven’t seen it already, I’m in the Oct/Nov issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts!
COUNTING LADYBUGS!
On page 16 is my ladybug quilt.
Made with batiks from Timeless Treasures.
Here was my “test” block.
I wanted to try a “new to me” technique of doing raw edge applique and stitching in black thread a deliberately sloppy double line all the way around.
I LIKE IT
Here’s the quilt being constructed.
As you know the ladybugs have different amounts of dots on them.
1-9 and the middle one is in orange.
and here’s the top completed.
I quilted leaves on the orange and squares
bubbles on the outer border and echo lines around the ladybugs
this way the ladybugs kind of “stick” out from the quilt
Here’s a look of the back
and the completed quilt
My test block I turned into a pillow and it’s a freebie pattern on McCall’s site
Now I have a copy of the magazine to give away too!

Whoop-Whoop and congratulations! This is a really cutie. I haven't tried any applique that way.. I always use a zig zag or button hole stitch. Congrats again and thanks for the giveaway!
Congratulations and that is one cute quilt! I do raw edge applique but haven't used the double stitch method yet. It looks perfect on this quilt.
Awesome quilt! I need to try double stitched raw edge applique.
Fantastic quilt!thanks for sharing your talent.
I've never tried the raw edge applique. I usual do the one where you make a backing and then satin stitchdmr1157@gmail.com
Cute cute cute! Ive not tried this! But I try to do it way to perfect, so 'letting go' might be tough!!
Congratulations your lady bug quilt is so cute. I have never tried the raw edge applique but do like the way it looks. So far the only applique I have done has been by machine using a zig zag stitich.
I like your ladybugs! Yes I have used this method before and love it.
Awww this is so cute. Love your sloppy double row stitiching. It gives those precious little lady bugs so much character!

Cute, cute quilt Bea and congrats!
Congratulations! Your lady bug quilt is very cute. I've done raw edge appliqué, but not the double line. I like to use a small zig zag stitch with my appliqué. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful quilt. I have not used this raw edge technique. I like to use the blanket stitch on my machine for raw edge applique.
Congratulations, it's a great quilt! I've tried applique once so far since I'm fairly new, and it was raw edged. I didn't do a double line, but looking at yours and how it came out, I'm definitely going to do it now! Thanks so much for the giveaway, I would love to win a copy!tdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
I don't get the magazine any more so I hadn't seen this yet. It turned out really cute. Congrats on another publication.
