How to quilt Easy Street

Bonnie Hunter’s Easy Street Quilt is loaded….

Now I’m stuck though!

I AM planning on doing feathers on the black border and bubbles/pebbles on the teal inner border, but not sure about the middle part of the quilt, I’m thinking pointy swirls or basic meandering.

They seem to be my basic GO-TO designs. hmm

I chalked the spine for the feathers, which I don’t do often.

Now what thread color should I use?

Black, teal, light blue or green?

My husband suggested Gray! that might be a good half way point…?

what do you think?

  1. Gray isn't a bad idea. I just quilted a black border in black thread and it isn't very discernible. Gray wouldn't scream for attention, but would still be visible, and I would think you would want your beautiful feathers to show!

I think gray too. A color is going to take over, and as Janet said black would disappear. I had my quilter do an all-over feather panto design on mine because it is so busy already that the quilting really doesn't show much. Of course, I didn't use a solid border like yours. Feathers will be luscious there!

  3. I did a freehand swirl on my Easy Street. It was so busy that it just needed texture. I didn't put borders on mine but probably would have feathered it if it would show. I love to quilt feathers.

I got excited when I saw your title, I haven't loaded mine yet, not sure what I want to quilt on it. good luck!

The gray would look great and show up, but not scream out! Sonja is absolutely gorgeous, as usual. Love your new space upstairs. Looks like Peanut is enjoying it, too!

  6. Grey would be wonderful. I used a light to medium teal which sort of looks like grey and just love it. Seriously though I've such a crush on your sewing space 🙂 And that little Sonja is just way too adorable.

  7. I'd go with the teal or lime green. It would look great on the black and either would blend in with the piecing. I think the gray is a little light and would go with a darker medium gray if going with gray. Black would stand out more on the piecing than any of the others. You will have to decide if you want to blend or stand out.

  8. Too bad you don't have a variegated teal and lime. That would be so pretty on the border! A light gray over the center would not detract from the colors in the top.
