Have you ever heard of Annie’s Kit Club?
There’s SO many, you can first pick your craft: Yarn, crochet, knit, kids, general, quilt and sew, paper, jewelry, fabric!
I’m an affiliate of Annie’s and have a few patterns listed on their main site, but I got this email about their clubs being on sale and promotions and I asked if they could send me a kit to try and blog about and at first I thought of quilting, then I thought of something else, they I thought of my KIDS! And I was really stuck between the Science (Genius) one or the creative girls one, or even one for women for my teenager, so I let my contact at Annie’s pick and she sent us 2 sets to try!
The Creative girls one AND the genius one!
(we got these when we had company so I waited to open them until we were by ourselves this week)
We started with the Genius Box and this is what was inside
I don’t know if it was just this month or if the whole genius box is more geared toward boys or maybe I’m just stereo typing since there was a dinosaur in there, but it’s still pretty neat, activity #1 was to be a paleotonlogist
So we tried that, you have to DIG out the dinosaur “bones”, the directions in the book were very clear and told us to put the “plaster” brick in the empty box and to use the little plastic tool to start digging and scraping.
My youngest 2 kids are 9yo and 6yo girls so they each took turns, at first it was boring, then there was arguing about it and I had to put a 1min timer on my phone and they switched when it beeped, I even help to dig too!
then we found “something” and it got really exciting!
The girls kept digging and a few times we were able to use force and break off pieces with our hands but it was NOT easy!
The box came with a little plastic dinosaur who was looking on!
finally the “skeleton” was freed of the plaster!
we rinsed it (per the directions) and here’s the two pieces side by side. All in all I think it took 20-30 min to dig this out and it was quite fun, though be careful with the plastic we all got scratched a little bit trying to dig out the skeleton.
We skipped activity 2 and 3 for now and will do them another day, but here’s a few pictures of the booklet
Then we opened up the Creative Girls Club envelope and there were 2 activities in there.
Everything you need in 2 baggies, I was very impressed with these kits.
#1 has wood pieces you need to both glue and screw together, then paint, then stencil and add rub-on words, that will take quite a while!
The second kit has everything except school glue to make threaded string lanterns, I want my 17yo daughter to help with that!
I think I am partial to the girl’s kit, but I’m also interested in some of the women/adult clubs and of course the quilting/sewing ones too!
