Hand sewing in the storm!

So you know that last weekend we lost power because of Hurricane Michael.

well of course I was itching to sew!

So I pulled out my old bins of UFOs and I’ve had this giraffe project in a bin for several years, because I had decided to needle turn applique it! BIG MISTAKE! it’s HUGE and took forever!

I realized I only needed the two butterflies on the mommy giraffe’s ears!

(The pattern is called “My favorite earrings” by hissyfitz – I know Sandy BTW as she’s in Cary NC, so I bump into her at shows and recently she passed me on the highway, she had a vanity plate and I had my beaquilter decal, ha ha)

The pieces were almost all prepped and cut out, so it didn’t take long for me to sew one butterfly on and I was considering stopping there!

but then I figured I might as well do both, so it fits the name of the pattern and I’ve come this far, why cut corners NOW!!

just adorable!

The pattern (kit) also showed border and had fabrics included, I actually did a larger border a bit skinnier as I wanted fabric leftover for the binding.

It measures 44” x 46” (hard to tell it’s not square)

Now I need to think about how to quilt it!

after all the hand turn, is it going to be hand quilted. Did you get your power turned back on?
