This month’s Challenge was a SECRET for our friend Gwen, who graduated from UNC last weekend.
For this quilt I used a bundle of batiks from ISLAND Batiks
Called Sprinkles from Spring 2014
Here’s my two favorites from that bundle
I had designed this in EQ7
Then I started using my Go! dies
First the 6 1/2” square die 55000
Where I cut out the white squares.
very little waste
Then the 3 1/2” squares
I cut out 8 sets of 2 of 6 different batiks
Marked the back of the batiks on a diagonal and laid on top of the white squares on opposite corners and sewed on the line.
Here they are all done and ironed, it only took one afternoon I think.
Laid them on the design wall.
and sewed into rows
Then added the borders
I quilted a leaf vine on the border and curves on the blocks.
This was written on her invitation to her graduation party, friends from church were hosting it and I also helped make the cake here.
I brought fabric markers with me to the party and everyone signed it or wrote a verse for Gwen. Then I also brought it to Church Sunday and had more people sign it.
Here’s the notes from my husband and I.
She always calls us her “host” parents.
Here’s the note from Bjorn, he’s such a serious boy
and from Solveig
And Sonja
There’s only ONE empty spot left on the quilt, but I’m trying to get a friend to sign there, we’ll see.
Have you ever made a signature quilt or made something fun with the 6 and 3” square dies?
Link up below, we’d all love to see!
I LOVE the quilt and CAN'T WAIT to get my hands on it!! I love my HOST PARENTS too ;P
A lovely signature quilt for a memorable occassion.
Beautiful quilt Bea!
I REALLY love this quilt, the colours are gorgeous as are the fabrics. Your friend will treasure that gift for the rest of her life, I think it's a perfect present.
Really fabulous and I love the bright colors you used. I know that she will cherish it.
