I can finally share these cute potholders I made for Accuquilt’s blog
They are made using the GO Camper die and Marjorie Busby’s CUTE embroidery files!
I also used the 8 1/2″ square die and the 8″ QUBE set
First I cut out (2) 8 1/2″ off white squares and prepped them for embroidery by adding stabilizer to the back and marking lines down the middle and across, I also cut out the campers – this pictures shows all the campers I cut out when I made the big quilt for Accuquilt, here I had enough scraps to make a set of potholders too, so I embroidered the camper blocks at the same time as the quilt.
For the back I chose a flying geese block and cut out (16) #4 triangles in this teal fabric and (32) of #5 small triangles in white print
I also prepped some binding strips, about 6 ” or so long x 2 1/2″ pressed in half then opened up and pressed toward the middle, these will be hanging tags.
The teal fabric was directional so I kept the blocks together like this
then sewed double geese units
and finally blocks like this plus I top stitched the hanging tags
Scraps of batting are great for potholders, I cut out 2 pieces that were plenty big, then also 2 pieces of insulbright from the warm company, it’s a type of batting that has metal flecks/threads in it so it’s supposed to help the pot holders be heat resistant.
I placed on layer of the insulbright and batting down, then laid the flying geese block on top and centered the hanging tags, then right sides together I pinned the camper block on top and pinned thru all the layers
with a walking foot I stitched around the perimeter and left an opening at the bottom, then trimmed the batting and insulbright and snipped off the corners too.
then I turned right side out and whip stitched the opening closed and top stitched again around the perimeter
they work great!
So very cute!!
What fun potholders. Total #CreativeGoodness
thanks!
