Frustrating

I started quilting my Persian Star quilt last week and it’s SLOW going, because I’m doing some DENSE work!

I have this fun spiral star template that I rarely use, so I figured I’d try it again, I marked the center in X and + and quilted around the template once then turned 45 degrees and did it again.

Then outlined it and did pebbles inside and outside it, it looks AWESOME!

On the borders I did feathers and straight lines, bubbles and ribbons.

In the star blocks I’ve done curves, bubbles and small squares or lines

Then THIS happened on the 2nd block! a BIG hole, I didn’t notice it when I put the blocks together (from a swap) but now that the quilt is stretched out and with the dense quilting it pulled apart, it’s about 1” long.

I’m ready to take this thing off the frame and STOMP on it….

I can’t fix it! Sad smile

I did start some more women of the bible blocks, again teeny tiny at 3 1/2” so 3” finished.

  1. DEEP BREATH.. you CAN do something to fix it … just takes a little thinking .. outside the block if necessary! There is always a way .. and all that beautiful work will be put to use … give it away when its finished someone will love it xx me for one xx

  3. How frustrating. Your quilting is beautiful. You certainly need to take some time to step back and work something out. You will probably need to take some stitching out so you can make a repair. I feel for you. Good luck.

  4. This has happened to me. I pulled the quilting stitches out around where the seam came together. I used "Fray Check" to keep the fabric from fraying then I took needle and thread and did a 'ladder stitch' to close the seam. Then when I went back to quilt that area, I made sure at least a couple stitches of quilting went over the seam. The quilting is beautiful as is the quilt. I'm sure you'll be able to 'save the day' – but agree – very frustrating to have that happen.

  5. Exuberant Color

Do you have some more of that blue fabric? It looks like you could applique a piece over the hole and it will never be noticed.

  6. I agree with the other ladies & their ideas for fixing it. It is a beautiful quilt! This has happened with donation quilts & even though it is frustrating & tedious, there is usually a way to fix it. You are so clever & after you take a little time to think about it, I feel sure you can rescue this gorgeous quilt.

Katie has it right!! These things do happen…this is the right step for you now. Don't panic or stress…just do it and relax…love it. Your quilting on this quilt is exceptional…I love the quilt!!

  8. Crickets Corner

I love this quilt! The colors are perfect and your quilting is beautiful. But if you want to stomp on it then do it and after you're done and are feeling better cut four squares just large enough to cover the spot. Needle turn applique one down over the spot and then put one on each of the other three matching points. It would change the design a little but I think it would add a very pretty design element to it and you wouldn't even have to quilt such a tiny square. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

  9. Crickets Corner

I forgot to say to turn the little squares on point to mimic the points already there.

  10. The quilting is beautiful. I think it can be fixed. Take a break and walk away for while. Then attack it with a fresh mind.

  11. Your quilting is positively beautiful on this Bea!! I sure hope you will be able to fix the tear. Maybe put a piece of fabric over it like a small applique?

OMG!!! That's so disheartening!!! But I'm betting you're going to find a way to fix it 🙂 I remember when I first started working for a french seamstress in her shop. I was just 15 but had been sewing for years already. My job was to make clothes for her daughters from her newest lines of fabrics, which she used as samples in the fabric shop for a few weeks, then let the girls wear them. I bought some very expensive fabric to make myself a dress and was almost done, trimming the seams so they would lay nicely – and cut a hole in the bodice!!! Right in the front of the dress – in the boob area LOL!! Needless to say, it wasn't funny at the time. I took it to her in tears, but that lady looked at it a few minutes and said, "No problem, Little One. I will fix it!" And she did the first applique work I had ever seen – she cut out a flower just like one that had the hole in it and appliqued a new one over it! I wore that dress for years and no one ever noticed. Your quilt will be the same – you'll find the perfect solution – I just know it!

  13. It is very frustrating. I have had that happen. I have done the fray check to stop the fraying. I also would do the stitch over. You could use miofilment thread if you done want out to show. I'm really impressed with your undertakings. You do wonderful work. Hand stitch it to hold it there. It will work out.
