Today I wanted to show you my FIRST published quilt ever!
It was published in McCall’s quilting magazine in Oct 2012.
Then quite a while later I turned it into a pattern (so it’s one of my older patterns but still a goodie)
This is the picture from the magazine.
The quilt is 47″ x 47″ finished and the blocks are 7″ finished. I remember I had just started using Accuquilt dies and I used the circle die for the wings and eyes and I think a bobbin or empty spool for the iris (back then they didn’t have a die that made small circles)
My pattern provides templates if you don’t have a way of making circles.
Here’s some different color ways that would look cute
I’ve also made a boy batik version of it a few years ago, I love having the eyes look in different directions 🙂
and notice how the triangles around the owl block are the same color and the eyes, so NOT the wings nor the block background so it stands out nicely.
I’m sure you could cut the block sections with a QUBE set either 6″ or 8″, you’d just have to figure out a nice size for the wings and eyes, but maybe it still wouldn’t look too bad with 5″ wings, or there’s the BIG circle die that has bigger circles on it, so that could be an option too. You can get the pattern here.
This is super cute! I love animal quilts.
That is a fun little quilt. I like the idea of Friday pattern highlights!
What a Hoot? is so adorable. Great design!
