foundation piecing and does easy street need a border?

I took the easy street top down and laid it on our bed, first to see if it needed a border and also to see if hubby liked it.

of course he loves anything I make- guess a little biased 🙂

I just don’t know if I should add a border or not, maybe a 4″ black border, but I really don’t have much fabric left, but I can easily order black. and maybe a scrappy binding?

OR if I stick with NO border, then a black binding.

I’ve been working on blocks for Quilt it today magazine,

I always did founation piecing a little different, then on thursday afternoon I saw a quilt show on TV and they did it this way, OF COURSE!!

here’s the template

I pinned the main fabric to it, making sure it goes over all the lines.

then folded back the line to #2

trimmed away 1/4″ (never did this before, I just eyeballed where the next piece went)

then laid out #2 fabric on the edge

re-pinned

sewed down the line with a small stitch (1.5)

ironed toward #2 and repeat on other side

and guess who fell asleep in her froggy chair.

and later in the weekend she fell asleep with the kids on a baby pillow, solveig just pretended to sleep next to her- see my winter pillow in the back too? 🙂

#19 McCall’s #5 diamond in squares – top done!

#20- roman holiday- kit

#21 Benertex floral quilt- top done ready to quilt

#22 Valentine’s Round Robin- dec done and mailed
#23 Woven Stars for CT – On the frame quilting today
#24 Quilt it today #2- red, white and blue quilt- fabrics arrive in January
#25- easy street- top done, may need a border?
#26 McCall’s #6 flower star- approved, need to pick fabrics
#27 McCall’s #7- “crazy daisy” – approved, need to pick fabrics
#28- Book quilt- just planned
#29 and 30(December) twin boy quilts -think I want to make spider quilts for them
#31 “birds”, #3 quilt it today- working on more blocks

    If it were my quilt I wouldn't do a border and probably try a black or dark blue(the one in the quilt) binding.

    I does look like it could use some extra width on the sides maybe. It will draw up some with quilting too. I'd add the border just to be sure, but I'm not sure about black. Actually I'd do a small black inner border (1"?) and then one of the other brighter colors for the bigger outer border – maybe the 4 inches? Just what I would do. It is gorgeous as it is!

    I think it would look great with just a dark binding, but as Teresa points out, once it is quilted it will be a little smaller. If you want the extra width, I like her suggestion of a narrow black border and a wider colored one.

    that's how I do PP, it makes it sooo much easier to position the next piece of fabric!

    I'm thinking just jump straight to black binding. Or do a thin black border (1 to 2 inches max) with black binding. That's my 2 cents anyway.I'm sure it'll look good whatever you decide.Congrats on the finish

    Well my 1st thought is that if you want a longer drap down the sides of your bed, you will need to make it a bit bigger so a border or even 2 would be needed. I'm thinking a black one and then a scrappy one after using the fabrics in the top finished with a black binding. But whatever you choose to do will be great, of course. No one will send Guido after you if you don't take our advice. LOL

    Holy moley, how do you keep track of all the quilts you have started. Have you given any thought as to how you'll quilt it? I think just a black binding would look great.

    Your Easy Street looks fantastic on the bed! We have a few similar pics of our kids – so cute! Google+ doesn't allow emails to be shown on the comments and it doesn't look like they are going to change it any time soon. There may be an email link on the profile pages of google+ users if they have added it there.

    Easy Street is beautiful I think one border would finish it off nicely. I too plan onmaking the binding from leftover fabric.
