Thanks to Carla for hosting this Foodie Blog Hop, I hope you’ve had fun hopping around and see all the great stuff people have created!
I had an idea early on about my project and wanted to keep it small and we ended up all getting sick over several weeks recently, luckily my project was done or mostly done, so it was quick to finish up and schedule a post!
Several years ago I won this set from Anita Goodesign called Prayer Garden
It’s a machine embroidery set consisting of LOTS of different machine embroidered blocks which are sewn together into a larger quilt (depending on the hoop size, the finished quilt can be small or large) I made ONE of these when I got the set and it’s hanging at our church, the individual blocks are really cute and I remembered ONE of them had strawberries on it, so I figured that would work with the FOOD theme!
Since I was only making one block, I made all 4 sides the same fabric
and here’s the block all stitches out, I think it was 5″x 7″ or maybe closer to 6″ x 8″
I then turned it into a pincushion which is stuffed with crushed walnut shells!
Did you know that instead of buying crushed walnut shells for pincushions, just buy a big bag of Lizard Bedding! It’s really cheap- except that you have to buy several pounds of it, but I used to host a pincushion swap and made pincushions all the time- I still make a few, so I don’t mind having a big bag of this stuff around!
Our Strawberry plants from last year are coming back, except the strawberries are getting eaten by bugs or birds, but we are starting to see some red fruit and able to bring a few inside!
a quick and easy project to make!
Here’s the rest of the participants if you haven’t looked around yet 🙂

Lovely pincushion and thanks for your tip about the lizard bedding to stuff the pincushions.
Your pincushion is gorgeous! I do the same thing for pincushions; buy a big bag of bedding from the pet store!
Thanks for sharing your cute pincushion! I will keep the pet bedding tip in mind too. I love to visit the pet shop and talk to the Guinea pigs; so adorable. :o)
Sweet little stitchery!
Aww, this is so pretty. Love your pictures with the strawberry plants. A great little project, thank you for sharing in the Foodie Blog Hop!
A sweet pincushion.
Love your pincushion! Thanks for sharing!
That embroidery looks so hand stitched, love it!
so pretty. glad to hear everyone is on the up side of healing
Your pincushion is beautiful and looks so fun in your strawberry patch. Thanks for sharing, Bea!
Beautiful pin cushion. Your hand work is awesome.
Absolutely adorable, I love the butterfly! I also have a huge bag of crushed walnut shells hanging around, I got mine from the pet store, I think it’s for bird cages or something. It sure is nice though!
Brandy
They could be for birds, but mostly as lizard bedding or whatever animals are in a dessert I guess. I now put it in an old empty animal cracker bin because it has a screw top lid.
Very pretty pincushion, and you said it was machine embroidered? It looks so much like actual handwork.
That is far too pretty to stick pins in.
So cute, our strawberries are going nuts
Very cute pincushion! Love it!
I love pinnies, and yours is so sweet. I think this will be another inspiration for me. Mine will need to he a jand embroidered one, but why not eh? Yours has inspired me. Thanks a bunch
You scored! I love pincushions, strawberries, and embroidery (machine and hand). I love using ground black walnuts shells for pincushions because of the weight.
Such a pretty pincushion and just right for this hop! Hope you get lots of strawberries from your plants! xx
so far we get a few each day 🙂
